How bout the ants and mosquitos?

Nah, they weren't bad, but I had a june bug get up my underwear in the middle of the night.

Much to my chagrin it wasn't a SD female diver. But at first I thought it was the train going by.

Sorry we missed you Ladyfish, Sydney and Kim. Sydney sprained her ankle the night before we were to leave for Athens, and Kim was feeling a bit under the weather, so alas, Teresa and I had all the SD men to ourselves. :birthday:

I painted as many screen names as I could think of on B2Bs missile thing. We had to take the paint brush away from B2B, after what he did to poor Buddy Fish. Fortunately, Calvin is rather talented with the paint brush and was able to repair Buddy. Tutt did a great job with the USA and Abyss did a great job with the Flagg.

The ants were ferocious, but after a few SD Sunsets, all is well.

My heart is glad....the healing balm of the SD Sunset does do wonders....

And thanks for putting me on the great missile, too.

How bout the ants and mosquitos?

Athens.

I was in Athens Scuba Park.

Waiting for something to happen--because I knew it would.

I had set up my CP on the fringes of the encampment I Callsigned Camp Runamuck for this deployment. All the gear was in order, but I had a feeling about the rest of the group that just wouldn't settle.

So I started a visual check and survey to try and figure out what was bugging me. All too soon it was obvious: the perimeter wasn't secure enough to hold. Tried to warn the others, but they were too engrossed in the tales of the singing lobsters Bubble2bubble had literally run into at the bottom of the lake to listen to me. Those few who seemed to take notice I later learned were simply comatose from an overdose of singlediver sunsets.

I braced for the attack that was now sure to come.

After the warmish Texas sun dropped below the horizon, the first feints and probes began. One SDer would quickly wave around an ear as if suddenly hearing a high-pitched whine; another would without warning slap an arm, leg or foot.

It was about 1100 when they began the main attack with an aerial onslaught; there was virtually no warning at all--just a shout of "Skeeters!" that was quickly drowned out by the droning of the attack group heading our way. There was barely time to unlimber and mount some kind of defense when they hit us. We just managed to handle the attack wave, beating them away with a combination of Off, citronella and natural funk, but many were left dazed and confused (even more so than normal) by the sudden draining of so much alcohol from their systems. We worked it to our advantage--Skeeters unable to fly straight make easy targets. Those who did fly away were later arrested by the locals for FUI and summarily executed.

Most thought we were through for the night. How wrong they were, and discovered when the second wave of ground forces hit us, composed of an advance guard of chiggers moving ahead of the main column of fire ants.

It was not a pretty night at Camp Runamuck.

They came. We killed thousands and they came.

They drained four of our cans of Black Flagg and STILL they came.

Just before Dawn, it was down to three against a thousand. We dug in, passed the last of the singlediver sunsets, and waited for the final attack.

It was a close thing, a damn close-run thing that allows me to tell the tale of the Runamuck Defense. Hours of attacks, defense and counterattacks that can hardly be described or understood by some one who wasn't there.

Somehow, we made it through to dive another day.

Since that time drdiver, grayfins and I have talked it over and all agree that at the end, they were three of the toughest fire ants we'd ever fought.

The Sinking of the SD.comers Spaceship!

Well after a good night to let the paint dry we loaded up the SD Capsule onto a flat bed trailer. Calvin gave us a clear plan of what each one would be doing during the lauch. most of the SD.comers where awarded the title of scubaguards ( something you can us in the future on a resume). the capsule was towed out to its postion and the scubaguards kept any rogue divers out of the area. as calvin gave the order Here She Goes.. you could hear a waterdrop...around the work area....many thanks to the scubaguards for being very seriuos about there jobs. it took a few minutes to fill-up with water then she sank to the bottom. the scubaguards where able to scuba on her at that time. we had to come back with some liftbags to carry her to her final resting place. Tuttt lead the way to find a proper place. on the first attempt we got to close to a training pad and we lifted her back-up and found a safer place to rest her. after making sure it was level the bags where removed and it is still there today for anyone to visit. later that night kerry tutt grayfins and I went back to test the floresent paint we used but really we should have used Glow in the Dark paint ! Owell.

the next morning platypussman twtexas and I went to see her after the smoke had cleared.

still hoping that more pic's will show-up from the many camera's that where there that day?
