I'm kinda thinkin' I want to get out of town on Labor Day weekend. My thoughts are drifting north to BC. Maybe do Whytecliff or Porteau Cove? Or maybe a boat dive? I know Labor Day weekend can be a madhouse for trying to get out of town, so perhaps we can adjust it by a day to beat the crowds, like Friday-Sunday instead of Saturday-Monday. I'm open for ideas. Other ideas that come to mind is I haven't done the San Juans in a while. Of course will have to check the tides for that weekend, haven't looked yet.

Hey Greg...it is time for another SD PNW event! Thanks for getting one started! Nicolle has just signed up to be a Happy Hour coordinator for the area and so I'm sure she'll want to help with any dive plans you all put together!

Thanks! Sounds like fun....this time I won't be able to join you all...I'll be in Grenada.

Labor Day weekend sucks for tidal exchange. The previous weekend looks great, but later in the day. Sooo... perhaps some place closer to home that isn't so current sensitive, like Hood Canal.

What dates are that? Hmm...maybe I can come!

Labor Day weekend is Sep 3-5, previous weekend is August 27-28. Maybe we should just join you in Grenada?

I guess the question that needs to be ask is When and Where?
Anyone else staying in town? Want to get together and dive?

We have a few sites that are not current dependent so Labor day week end is diveable.

If you want to plan it, go for it. The more I think about attempting to get out of town that weekend, coupled with the bad exchanges, the less I like the idea. If you want to handle Labor Day weekend, I'll plan something for the previous weekend. No law that says we can't do both.

Whoops sorry, can't make it for Labor Day...

I usually do a Dive Campout up to our great friends in the north to Campbell river...
http://www.poolesweb...mpbellriver.htm

But this time it's up to the little traveled Powell River to dive with the mermaid (same one that's in Cancun/Caymen??) and check out some new spots in the inlet, so won't be able to make it...
http://www.divepowellriver.com/

I'm fond of Powell River as that's where I did my Souffe' on a camp stove..
My Crowning glory... heheheh... :o

Pretty much open on the other dates, but are filling fast...
Exchanges up here are "Krap" until October... then the Diving Season begins.. Summers are pretty much the "Off Season" IMNSHO... :P

Bad exchanges, bad vis due to that Blasted Shiny thing in the sky... a Sun??? I think they call it... we're used to the cloudy non-plankton blooming lite...

ps. the Dive-campout is open if anyone is interested.. I know our great friends from the north won't make it, even though it's in "THEIR" Backyard.. heheh..something about, still waiting for a dry suit and doing an 'Intro Dive"... :o
the Saga Continues eh?? :o

And and in the life of a scuba instructor, the Summer weekends are booked booked booked with training. Sorry kiddos, I am outta social diving commission until at least mid-October.

Exchanges up here are "Krap" until October...

Not according to my Tide Log. Looking at just the weekends there are some fairly decent (i.e. flat) exchanges later in the day and into the evening on:

July 30th, slack before ebb about 3:15pm. After 9pm it's better, less than 1knot, slack before flood at 9:15.
July 31st, slack before ebb about 4:15pm, minimal exchange before flood around 10pm.

Aug 13th, slack before ebb about 12:45pm, dwindles to less than 1 knot, slack before flood around 6:45pm, slack before ebb again around 10:15pm
Aug 14th, slack before ebb around 2:15pm, before flood around 8:15pm.

Aug 27th, slack before ebb around 1:30pm, minimal exchange before flood starting around 7pm.
Aug 28th, slack before ebb around 2:45pm, minimal exchange before flood starting around 8pm.

Sep 10th, slack before ebb around 11am, before flood around 5:30pm.
Sep 11th, slack before ebb around 12:45pm, minimal exchange before flood starting around 6pm, continuing up through midnight. (Can you say "night dive"?)

Sep 24th, slack before ebb around noon, minimal exchange before flood starting around 5:30-6pm, continuing up through midnight.
Sep 25th, slack before ebb around 1pm, minimal exchange before flood starting around 6:30-7pm, continuing up through midnight.

These are Seattle tides. Tacoma tides not quite as good, but still very doable.

Summers are pretty much the "Off Season" IMNSHO... :)

Well, yes and no, it's a trade off. The summer plankton bloom does muck up the vis, but the bioluminesence of the plankton can make for some awesome night dives. Also on the photo part, summer is when the jellies come out. They can make for some great pics if you get it right, and keep your distance if shooting a Lion's Mane.

Wench, if you want to come dive with us again, save your money for October - November, and then dive BC for some really premier cold water diving. IOW I wouldn't spend money to dive up here in the summer. But if you really want to, we'll roll out the red carpet as usual...

the Dive-campout is open if anyone is interested..

Are you going with some other group, who? What accomodations are available for those of us who are "camping-challenged"?

Ok, it's an option. I'll wait and see what Colleen comes up with. I'll probably stay closer to home.
