What specific qualities in a mate do you rank at the top of the list?

1a. DIVER
1b. intelligence (preferable well-educated as well)
2. good communication
3. sense of humor
4. a partner not a dependant
5. reasonably simple lifestyle (no heavy shoppers or other material needs,
SCUBA equipment an exception)
6. enjoys travel and doesn't require it to be luxurious (backpacker)
7. can work remotely (on Catalina)- writer, web designer
8. does not want children (but loves them)
9. good cook (I'm a good dish washer)
10. physical attributes
a. preferably tall and relatively slender
b. brunette or black hair, preferably long but short can be very attractive too
c. no artificial body parts unless medically required

And that's just the top of my list!

1) Same species

2) Something between the ears besides nitrogen, oxygen, and trace gasses such as helium, argon, neon, and the like

3) A sense of humour, and a smile that isn't forced

4) Not so spoiled and materialistic that my efforts to please her will go unnoticed

5) Someone who likes the outdoors too

6) Someone who has room in her heart for kids, I do want some

7) Creative

8) Loyal

9) Someone capable of friendship

Geez... I could go on, but there's the tip of the iceberg.

See DL- I get axed by SH due to one of my criteria. Should we all consider compromise? Na!

Dr. Bill

PS- I hope I didn't need to put honesty as a separate criterion. I just assume it is understood (under good communication).

Hmmm
Gotta love diving, or be very, very tolerant of my love of it.

Be able to have an intelligent conversation about almost anything, yet not be afraid of saying "I don't know anything about that, please explain it."

Fun loving

Nature lover (no I don't mean a tree hugger, just enjoy being outside)

Enjoy traveling

(to paraphrase Dr B) Dosen't mind clean-up (I'm a good cook)

well that's the short list anyway

In no particular order, my ideal mate would have:

1) Good moral values;

2) Be an outdoorsman;

3) Financially independant;

4) Common sense;

5) Not judgemental or arrogant;

In my Funk & Wagnalls, "mate" is defined as "either of two animals paired for propagation," "a husband or wife," or "a companion."

I'm assuming we are using a definition closer to the third or ultimately the second. Much as I enjoy practicing the act(s) required in the first, I am not looking to succeed in it (yes, I'm an "underachiever" in that sense!).

I dunno Drbill, I was thinking more along the lines of the first choice! ok, not really...but it was really funny...like the pig thread (you know...the 30 min orgasm thread)!

let's see...willing to accept my quirks and comfortable being himself around me, loves or at the very least respects my family and is understanding of my misguided family devotion, willing to try new things, doesn't mind it when i'm mercurial and fluctuate from a ditzy airhead to a serious scholar, is desirable but will come home to me every night - EVERY NIGHT - for your fun, financially independent and somewhat frugal but doesn't mind huge purchases (i.e. scuba gear and vacations), doesn't have the need for everyone to know he's financially sound...i.e. driving a porshe and letting everyone know that you consider it beneath you until the car you want actually becomes available, intelligent and witty, able to make me laugh, have the deep understanding that problems in life are just roadblocks and challenges to overcome...that our situations are not stagnant, can convince me that having beautiful children with you will be a joy rather than a stumbling block, to make me feel as if you're the luckiest man alive to be with me and to do everything reasonable to make me feel the same, and to have the understanding that i'll be happier and loyal to you if you'll go to central market to buy me a sunflower and a strangely packaged drink to make me laugh rather than a give me a generic dozen roses that didn't cost you any effort. whoa...i've got issues...:blink:!

In no particular order:

1) loves nature
2) not a girlly girl. Just at least be willing to get her hands dirty without worrying about her nails or what shoes she has on.
3) Knows how to laugh at herself.
4) Great Eyes... (yes I said eyes)
5) Is comfortable with herself and doesn't need to be around me 24/7.
6) Someone that takes care of themselves (they don't have to spend 12 hours a day in the gym, but at least doesn't weigh 200 lbs either).

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

"Do, or do not. There is no 'try'."
