I'm wondering also, there hasn't been a lot on news on what the status is.

On this morning's news report, they said that most of the hotels had major damage. They were still awaiting figures, but at that time there were only 3 confirmed deaths. I pray there are no more.

Significant damage to many operations. Boat damage not reported at this time. At least some storm surge damage to inshore reef suspected due to ground fish being found on shore, but no confirmatory reports of course. Loss of life is still being assessed, hopefully will remain low.

A good website that I recently found is Cozumel My Cozumel It's currently maintained by people who live there on the island. If you go to the Talk Forums you can view posts about the condition of the Island from people who live there.

That's a great link, Princess of Helium! Thanks! According to that, they've started running out of food and they are starting to eat coconuts. Hope the Mexican army can get them some food soon, but with all the looting in Cancun it may be awhile. I hope everybody is praying for those poor people.

Here's another good link I just found from reading a few of the posts from those forums..

Yucatan Paper

If you scroll down on the far right go to the first Fotoespecial and it shows a few pictures from Cozumel.. most are from Cancun.

Looks like tremendous devastation. Just terrible.

Cozumel sounds dreadful. Luckily Belize didn't get anything like that - much beach erosion and some damage to docks, but virtually no damage to buildings. Underwater viz is dreadful, but overall we got off very lightly. From what I've been reading, Cozumel (in particular) has suffered catastrophic damage that cannot possibly be mended before the season kicks off.

Peter, saw the pics of the blow on the ambergris website. Glad it wasn't that bad. As far as Coz, they are putting a brave face on it, but it does look bad for it and Cancun. I haven't heard about Playa del Carmen. A close family friend's condo in Cancun was completely gutted. The building is still there, but all windows and many doors just gone.
