Ok Folks,
Now that winter is here. Time to start thinking of Spring! Yea, I know, I'm jumping ahead a little. But I want to start an exercise routine that I can stick with. I admit it... I'm lazy! I walk 8000 steps a day, but I need more. Can anyone suggest something easy that won't bore me??? I have moved my treadmill in front of the TV, but I threw my hip out moving it, so I've waited a little before I attempt to kill myself some more. Thought was, watch TV and walk. yea ..... sure!
Heather.

Like many things in life, if you have an end goal in mind that is both measurable and achievable you can motivate yourself to do what it takes to get there.
Nebulous things like 'getting fitter' or 'healthier' won't cut it, since you won't ever be able to quantify when you've gotten to your goal, will you?
No, it's got to be stuff like "I WILL lose 10 lbs by January 1, 2006" or " I WILL walk for an hour on my treadmill by December 24 without collapsing like a jellyfish out of water."
Next, having established what you want to accomplish, you must be willing to do what it takes to get there--not just have the desire to succeed. Many people have the desire to succeed, very few have the ability to perform the sacrifices required to actually do so.

Try alternating your routines where your not doing the same thing all the time and shoot for a goal, but don't make it too hard on yourself where it will frustrate you.
Too many times with excerise programs or weight-loss we all shoot for un-attainable goals which are too hard to follow because things don't happen overnight or as quickly as we like and then we just throw in the towel and give up.. shoot for short term goals and if it helps to make you feel better reaching your first or second goal, reward yourself with something you really like.

Well, since I know you have two dogs, incorporate them into your new exercise routine. Take up hiking with them or taking them for longer walks (not just throwing the ball at the dog park for them). Between my dog and walking to work, I am on the move for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours a day which adds up to a lot over the course of a week. Plus, on weekends, we walk and hike even more. Making your dogs part of it makes it very enjoyable and fun (plus it keeps the vet off your back for poochies becoming a little heavy). Everyone benefits!

If your like most, it takes company to get it really in gear! Someone to push with you and you to push too. I don't know if that someone is around, but I think it easiest that way.

That is what Sandy and I are doing. We joined the YMCA by us and go 3 times a week. Sometimes it takes that other person just to get you moving. Once you get moving, it is alot easier. A little encouragement goes along way.
