Caetllonn's visit to Catalina from the cold "North Country" has been an interesting and amusing one for me. I hope she feels likewise. I have really enjoyed talking to, and getting to know, her. We are soooo different, that the differences provide much amusement (I hope to both of us).

Accustomed as she is to an urban lifestyle, the thought of riding through the interior on a cold windy day in an open jeep was not high on her list of priorities, so we combed the beaches near Avalon for shells instead. Of course Catalina is a temperate world so there were none of the beautiful shells found in the subtropics and tropics, but she did manage to find a few interesting shells after we discarded the ones with hermit crab occupants.

Yesterday we were able to take a ride in the semisubmersible "glassbottom" boat so she could experience what life in the kelp forests is like. I shouldn't speak for her, but I got the distinct impression she was not impressed (perhaps because it looked very cold and temperate species tend to be a bit dull in color). Today we toured the world famous Catalina Casino building, home of the first motion picture theater designed specifically for the "new" technology of "talkies" and the world's largest circular ballroom (for Big Band dancing).

So it has been a very interesting and amusing visit. Caetllonn has been fun to talk with and there were a number of subjects that we covered (like the planned invasion of Canada by Jenna and Barbara Bush). I'll let her add her impression of this brief get together out in the remote Pacific. Of course her mileage may vary, but I saw much humor and entertainment in our get together. Certainly an interesting new friend (but, of course, without benefits!).

So keep her in your thoughts as she flaps her wings back home tomorrow (oh, wait... she's no Canadian goose and this isn't "Winged Migration." She's flying up there in an airplane). After all, she's family!

No garibaldi to see? They're pretty colorful. I think to full appreciate kelp, you gotta get right down there in it and watch the sun rays shining through. And I don't think the Bush twins are much interested in Canada, Caetllonn. Too cold and ...not enough..... :teeth:

In Caetllonn's defense (not that she needs anyone to defend her... she's more than adequate at that), it was an overcast day which made the water look colder, the kelp forests browner (well, they are a brown alga rather than the greenery of her B.C. woods) and the fish less colorful.

As for Caetllonn's side of the story, don't believe a single word. I didn't do it! Seriously, she read my post last night but wanted to wait until she got back to the comfort of her MacIntosh to reply. Hmmm... that may bode poorly for me.

I would think that seeing the Kelp Forests from above is one thing, diving among them is another. I knew someone had that impression of fish and coral in Cozumel when she was snorkeling, when she took up diving and got to swim among the fish and see the coral up close, she was awed.

Looking forward to hearing her report!

For her to really appreciate the kelp she needs to get in the water.

Well, now that the little twit has departed on the 2:05 PM boat and is sitting in LAX right now waiting for her flight home, I can finally tell the truth about her visit. I'm not sure if it is her Canadian heritage, or just her unique personality, but this lovely lady was one of the biggest challenges I've ever faced! I wanted to write you all (primarily the males of course) to warn you.

I am considered somewhat of a charmer here in SoCal. I tried every great line I could think of on this woman. Any blonde bimbo from SoCal would have fallen for them hook line and sinker. However, our dear Caetllonn deflected them all and dismissed them with a laugh. How demoralizing. All my best efforts dismissed without serious consideration. Why, I even tried my best stealth moves... the subtle slip of the arm over the shoulder, the gentle grasp of her hand as she walked, etc. Heck, she nearly broke my arm on the first move and she walks so darned fast (a product of her urban lifestyle) that I couldn't keep up long enough to successfully try the second method.

Caetllonn's defenses were literally impenetrable. This is a woman of high ethical standards and moral character (which, of course, makes her not my type!). I guess I had totally misjudged her. Somewhere out there in the SingleDivers community there must be a manly diver who can break down her will power. However, I wish all of you who try good luck... you're going to need it unless you have the key to unlocking her heart.

Heck, I already miss our witty repartee and hope she will soon be safely at home with her own little computer to tell her side of the story.

Well, DrBill, I do not know what to think about this post but it appears that things did not go very well. With that in mind, here are my thoughts ...

I am assuming this was the first time you had met in person. I may be wrong, but it does sound like you might have come on to her a little too strong. Right now, I can think of, but will not name, six other SD.com women all of whom that are just like you describe Caetllonn. Yes, they have high ethical standards and good moral character and I would put major odds on the fact that all six would have responded to you the same way. How do I know this about them? Well, I have met them personally and I have gotten to know them on a level that transcends this forum.

Her defenses were impenetrable? Well, any woman, when they meet a guy for the first time, is going to have her defenses up and why not? She does not really know you and how you are one-on-one. Then, if you come on (in her mind) a little too strong, they are going to baton down all the hatches and seal off all the entrances. When that happens, forget it! It's game over, man!

I do not know about the women in SoCal, but virtually all of the women in my life here in Texas do not care much for guys coming on to them too strong early on. They liked to be treated like ladies and with respect, if that means, you never put a hand on them, so be it. But they do like it when you open the door for them and pull their chair out for them at dinner. In time, you can get to the point where you can put your arm around their shoulder or walk hand-in-hand.

If you ask me, with the right approach, any man, that wants to, can unlock the door to Caetllonn's heart. You mention breaking down her will power, with a woman like that, you can not do that, you don't even try to. But I bet you can remove it one panel at a time.

As for the other SD.com men, I can actually think of two others (I'm not one of them, of course) who, if they wanted to, would probably been able to find the key to her heart and unlock it. Now whether they would, I do not know, they would have to answer that.

This was not intended as a flame, this is just how I saw it. Will be interesting to see what she has to say.

PS. For the ladies, all six of the women I "did not name" do live here in Texas. If you think you might be one of the six, chances are good that you are. As for the guys, one of them is not really a part of this board anymore, the other one is known to sing a song or two.
