Hey,
My name is Jay. I am a professional, commercially certified salvage diver. Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm bringing this up to prevent enormous fines and injury. Are you commercially certified? In order to do physical work underwater for pay, state and federal agencies have very strict regulations regarding commercial diving. If your not commercially certified, or trained in commercial diving, and salvage operations. I urge you to look into the regulations regarding commercial scuba, and surface supplied diving operations. I also urge you to look into the penalties for conducting commercial diving operations illegally. I'm telling you this from experience. The minimum mandatory fine is $10,000. The maximum penalty for untrained persons, is death. There are so many unforseen factors, and Mr. Murphy has final say. I urge you to take a look at OSHA 29 CFR 1910.4XX, as well as USCG regs which are 46 CFR 197.4XX. One agency or the other will be governing your operations unless your out of country or in international waters. I'm not trying to bully you. I made the same mistake. Got fined $10k for recovering a boat, and after a year of legal hassles and payment of the fine, I enrolled in dive school. I am a 12yr veteran commercial diver and salvage specialist with over 2500 logged dives. And I sure am glad I switched direction and went to commercial dive school. There isn't a scuba cert for anything remotely close to commercial work. And no, a wreck diver cert doesn't count either. Anyway, there's my 47 cents worth. Be safe, remember that the KISS rule is a lifesaver. And may your bubbles always go up!
