I was at Wakatobi in April of this year, and it is ALL that the reports say it is, and more. It was altogether the best run resort I have ever experienced, from the dive staff to the 4 star dedicated Pastry Chef, to the Dive boat team. Our Dive boat was 60 feet long and there were only 11- 12 divers on it - and the engine room has glass windows surrounding it - I swear - you could eat off the surfaces in there - the staff all excel at what they do. The people were really amazing - and best yet - they serve Diversitea!!!
Oh, by the way - the diving is incredible - dive time minimums are 70 (yes seventy) minutes and since they offer everything from Aluminum 60's to Steel 120's everyone can stay down that long - they also offer Nitrox... the camera room is amazing and very spacious as well.
Dives start deep and at about 25 minutes, you come up to the top of the amazingly colourful reef and can stay for another 50 plus minutes! The dive guides know where all the good stuff is, and they share information among themselves as to where the frogfish is hanging out, and where thepygmy seahorses are...
There are no big critters but the life and macro is stunning! I attached a couple of pictures - they don't do the reefs justice!
MV Manthiri in the Maldives was my favorite dive destination before I experienced Wakatobi - now they're tied and only because of the Mantas and Whale Sharks (and Manthiri crew)!
We even had a couple who came from the UK just to snorkel! The reeftops are that pristine!
All these shots were taken with a point and shoot Canon SD 550!
