DISCUSSION THREAD June 19-26, 2010 Cozy, Cenotes & Whalesharks!

I would be interested in this one. Especially for the chance to swim with whalesharks.

Ok so it seems we have 2 topics on essentially the same trip. I have updated the topic title and I will be merging the two threads soon. Just giving you all some warning!

Cozy is a given, I would like to see it offered every year because it is affordable and it is great diving.

I plan on teaching summer school Summer 2010. So I can manage 2 diving trips. I don't know what the dates are for summer teaching. As soon as I know I will post, but I would be interested in Cozy.

Looks like I can fit this in just in time to return to a work conference (yep teachers DO work during those "breaks").

It looks like we'll be doing the Halloween trip to Cozumel annually....this one was our 2nd one and it was a blast! The resort loves us as does the dive operator and we have been treated like royalty and they keep wanting us to come back! How cool is that!!!

I would love to do this trip if my $$$ situation allows.

Do you know at least which days will be Cozumel and which would be holbox/cenotes?

I have a sweetheart deal on a Villa in Cancun, but need to book it by Dec 1st!

Is the diving good in Cancun? I can't remember, I was there 15 years ago. I'd rather not do all the transfer stuff either to Cozy. i'm more interested in Holbox and the Cenotes. - D

I haven't done any diving out of Cancun, but from everything I have heard, its not as good as Cozy. Like Belize its going to be windward side diving. There is also a marine park off of Isla Majeres on the north side of cancun.

If you did not like Cozy diving you will REALLY be disappointed in Cancun/Playa/Isla diving. The BEST diving is in Cozy.

The cenotes are shallow underwater cavern systems that have awesome stalagtite and stalagmite formations. There is only one place where you will be in an overhead environment where you can not get out and its after you have already gotten acclimated to the caverns where there are exits to reach the surface. If you feel uncomfortable then you can turn around and they do a check at that point of everyone. They also do 4 divers to 1 DM for the same reason. So far NO ONE has ever turned around...not even those hard on air. The dive is very shallow so you don't use a lot of air and can do an hour dive as a result!

OK well then Whatever you put together. Cozumel or whatever. I would though like to fit in the Chicken Itza at the beginning or end or whatever. I can extend my stay or whatever.
I guess it will be June so it will be easy to get down to one luggage.
Throw my bathing suit and PJ's in my dive bag, throw out the wetsuit, get a get a skin and go.

I'm interested in the side trip if it is at the beginning of the trip... can't manage additional days at the end. Sounds very interesting.
