I have a question...

As tempting as the idea of running down a carjacker is, what about the legal issues? Our laws in this country can be kind of screwy in this regard. I've read stories about people who shoot robbers in self defense and end up getting arrested for it, for example. I've also had people say stuff like "if someone is breaking into your house and you decide to shoot them, shoot to kill and don't hit them in the back"

So I wondered what would happen in the event that one were to run down a car-jacker in self defense. Unless there were witnesses around, could the driver run the risk of getting in trouble for acting in self defense?

Any legal-eagles care to bite on this one?

Yes as it turns out it is not true...HOWEVER the possibility exists that something similar could happen. As a result it has been a good discussion point. In fact I'm hoping that Laura's question gets answered as I myself am keenly interested in the answer! -ww

Laura,
I assume when you say 'run down' the carjacker. You mean, run them over when your car before they get it?

Correct, I meant run over them with your car while you are still in it, before they are..someone suggested this in a previous post and I just wondered what the legal rammifications would be if you actually did this.
