I dive a 7 ft. primary hose with a 24 in. alternate. My SPG hose is 30 in. and my inflator hoses are 24 and 29 in. I am also a bigger guy.

Much of the hose length discussion depends on personal variances in size and configuration. I didn't notice a mention of it earlier but there is a 6 ft. hose option for people who are too small for the 7 ft. hose and still want to tuck it behind something on their belt. I think you are wise to wait until you get your gear assembled before you start buying specialized hoses.
