800+ Pages and 7 Months Later...

Wrote my Divemaster exams Saturday and passed all eight sections. The exam was quite thorough and I am glad I did a solid week of review beforehand. I should have done two actually... Was a two hour exam and I missed four questions as I ran out of time. My brain felt like pudding when I was done and it was a total of 7 months to finish all the course work. Over 800 pages of information to digest, two projects and the intern program for OJT. ~Whew~
I turned in my U/W mapping project and finished up my intern work yesterday afternoon. Everything has been signed off, the fee has been paid, my application form was sent in and now I am just waiting for my DM number in the mail.
Will be in touch with Dive Girl when I get my number for her Pro thread. Thanks to everyone on the Grenada trip who answered a pile of silly questions. It helped!

As someone who is nearly finished with my DM course, I think it's difficult for someone not working on the cert to comprehend just how much work it really is. I certainly didn't.
8 written exams, 4 swim tests, underwater equipment exchange, internship, a stack of books to read, theories to master............
You have definitely earned a reward Simon!

But now comes the real hard part of actually doing the job.

Been considering going into the IDC for the last while. They have one here in September. However, I think I will wait until next year at least. If I take the IDC now I will have to skip a SD trip or two because of the course cost (I know... THAT is just crazy talk...) and for the moment I just want to relax and get some diving in. Plus, I can work on a few ADV and Specialty courses for the experience in the meantime and see how the pros do it.What are your plans after this?
When I do an IDC I will probably take two weeks and get one down south. I would want to try and go straight to MSDT to make myself as flexible as possible for the future. Then who knows? Buy a dive op. Wakatobi maybe? Live in a beach hut and enjoy the surf and sunsets...

Enjoy being a divemaster and savor the experience! Rushing into the next level serves nothing other than to feel rushed! The best instructors are the ones that ultimately chose not to rush into that decision.

this is a cert you definately earn, but the fun part is actually working with divers and sharing your knowledge with them. Along the way, you'll get to add to your own knowledge base too!
