Valentine's Day...

I know I know many are frustrated with not having someone special to share that love with or the over commercialization of the concept of 'love' but the truth is...its still a day of love and as with everything in life...its what you choose to make of it.
Until recently I never had that proverbial 'someone special' in my life. Not the one you think Valentine's Day is all about and trust me...being a single female I've been there...done that. Heck I've even had guys break up with me right before Valentines Day and even on Valentine's Day. I used to make sure I was out of town on Valentine's Day so no one would notice that I didn't get flowers sent to my work. During those days I was always depressed and angry and bitter over the holiday and heck...I wouldn't have wanted to date me either. (Guess that's why it stayed that way for me for such a long time...you know self-fulfilling prophesy kind of stuff.)
And then I found the true meaning of Valentine's Day about 7 or 8 years ago and I started to focus on my friends...and my family and my niece and my grandmother...focusing on making sure that they felt loved and special on Valentine's Day. As a result I no longer worried whether I had a 'traditional' Valentine and truthfully...it was more fun to go to dinner with people I REALLY LOVED rather than going with someone I was hoping might like or perhaps love me one day but knowing as with most relationships it would probably not work out.
And guess what? Valentine's Day has become a holiday with true meaning for me now...it TRULY is about love and remembering special people in your life.
I often wonder if you fill your life with love that it will be attracted to you...including that someone special you have waited your life for? It certainly seems to hold true that if you fill your life with anger, frustration, annoyance and other negatives they seem to continuously seek you out and keep you company...far longer than they are welcomed!
So anyone else want to share a Valentine's Day funny? Or a special moment? How about new ideas to spend a traditional day so it has more value?
Anyone want to do an SD Valentine's Happy Hour or get together? I'm taking my mom somewhere...we'd love to have more company...after all...LOVE loves more company!

Not a great holiday topic for us poor lonely single people!
That's the point...its a holiday to go out and rejoice LOVE...
Love of friends...
Love of family...
Love of kids...
Love of parents...
Love of those who need our love...
When we forget ourselves...and think of others...we truly do find the real meaning of Valentine's Day!

Violets are blue
Valentines Day isn’t just for lovers
So we singles shouldn’t go boo hoo
I once enjoyed romance and dinners
Flowers, music, candles,
But now I have fun at salsa classes
Even if they tread on my sandals
I have no Valentine stories
...at least that I can share
Perhaps that will change
If I ever become part of a pair…
Valentines Day without an “other” half
Can cause us to silently pine
So share it with your best friends,
And especially with some decent wine.

I'd drink to that one with you Sheena! Here's a long distance "Cheers to you" for Valentines Day girl!

Now one of the sisters does it for us.
It is a special tradition that I am glad my sister has kept going for us.
It brings back the memories of my mother and the special love that she gave us in a little box.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.

I digress....anyway....I am looking forward to hanging out with some new girlfriends at an "anti-valentines" party on the Riverwalk. I hear they have cheap drinks and cute single guys!

So I got creative and Googled the web for images. I found several that said "No Fat," "No Sugar" and a nutritional label that I modified to say no calories. I had an old heart-shaped Whitman's sampler Valentine box that had been filled with chocolates. I bought some Valentine Hershey's kisses (Godiva would have been better, but I didn't expect her to actually eat the chocolates).
I used my limited design and artistic skills to put together a label that included the images mentioned earlier, ones of Hershey's kisses, etc., and text that said these chocolates were specially formulated in the Hershey's factory to have all the taste and richness of chocolate but none of the calories so she could eat as many as she wanted without gaining weight and losing her appeal to any unknown competitors I may have out there. In addition to the chocolates there were brass tokens that said "good for a hug" and "good for a kiss."
When she opened the box, she thought the label was a real factory label and didn't read it at first. I told her to read it and she smiled and laughed. Oh, and at the end of the date she redeemed both tokens but kept them for redemption on future dates. And, being a gentleman, I will say no more other than that it was a magical evening.
