What is your dream dive trip? Do you spend as much time surfing the web, pouring over dive mags and daydream planning dive trips as I do?

At the top of my short-list dream trips – this one has been in the research stage (my travel books are worn thin) and saving stage for the past couple of years. I have burned up the ‘email’ lines as well, to most of my planned stops. I’ll have the funds by 2010 …. In theory. Or one of these days I may just say screw it and CHARGE ahead! Of course all my ‘dry’ friends think I’m nuts so I’ll be traveling on my own as usual – unless any of you lot want to join me? :-)

Anyway my dream trip…. it’s 5 -6 weeks of cultural exploration and daily diving as I work my way through Micronesia. First a few days each diving Siapan and Guam, then on to Chuuk, for several days. I’m excited to see all the WWII wrecks. Then Yap for tons of diving (Manta’s) and exploring all the islands. I want to go to the Forbidden Island. I don’t care what’s there – it’s forbidden so I must find a way to go! I want to try living ‘native’ with a local family part of the time. Then finally, I’d like to spend at least a couple weeks in Palau diving and exploring – also spending some time living with the locals.

This is only ONE of several that I have completely planned and routed out, only waiting for proper funding!

Stacy :thankyou:

PS I speak publicly for a living, and always love to talk – as you may be noticing it transfers easily to the written word~
I just want to be underwater!

OK, that sounds awesome! It's going on MY must do list.

I also want to go to Indonesia, Galapagos, the Red Sea, the Med, etc., etc.
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

Iguess my dream dive trip is the one that I'm on at the present time. The one to everywhere. Just as my favorite place to dive will always be the next place I'm going to.

Well, my last dream trip was realized in 2008. 10+ weeks traveling/backpacking and diving around the Pacific. Stops in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangkok, southern Thailand, Kuala Lumpur, Australia (Darwin-Goa-Cairns-Sydney), New Zealand, Fiji, Cook Islands and Tahiti. That's my kind of trip!

Next two regions of interest (South America and Africa) don't lend themselves as nicely to such an extended journey). No dreaming anyway until my bank account undergoes some CPR.

Playing tennis is another one of my passions, so before I started diving, my dream trip included a visit to Australia for the Australian Open. It would be great if I could take off several weeks from work and combine diving with a visit to one of my favorite tennis tournaments.

What is your dream dive trip?

If money were no object, dream dive trip would be a land-based trip (no liveaboards) with just a few people I already know (no strangers, did that once, had a horrible time) that had a lot of good shore diving available as well as occasional charter (no cattle boats!) excursions. Between dives I would want to sample the culture and cuisine and fun w/o having to fight crowds or worry about getting mugged.

Do you spend as much time surfing the web, pouring over dive mags and daydream planning dive trips as I do?

No, and for the same reason I don't indulge in porn. Why get myself worked up over something I can't have?

My current dream trip, and one I'm in the initial planning stages for, an around the world dive trip for 2011. I anticipate about 8-12 weeks, beginning in the Red Sea, Maldives, Austrailia, Fiji, and ending in Hawaii. I'm sure I can find some additional dive sites along the way to fill out the time. Any suggestions???

Right now, I'm concentrating on the SD Wakatobi trip in October, and an additional 11 days of diving in the Raja Ampat area.

To paraphrase our wine tasting host [and fellow diver], at the SD - DFW Happy Hour last night. Diving and wine drinking are similar. There are always more sites to dive, and wines to drink.
