I just found out that I'm getting to see my sweetheart today for a few hours TODAY!!! He was able to get a last minute discounted ticket and is on his way to see his daughter's new baby in Denver but is routing via Dallas. So I'm up early getting ready for his 3 hour layover at the airport. I'm very thankful for this brief but wonderful opportunity as it will be New Year's before I get to see him otherwise.

Thank you both! It was an awesome visit! I picked him up at the airport, we had breakfast, noticed an auto supply store and he fixed the rearview mirror that had just fallen off due to Texas's heat and while it was drying....er....well we still had plenty of time to get back to the airport AND enjoy hanging out! ;)

I have my health, a comfortable bed to sleep in and nourishing food to eat multiple times a day. It does not sound like much, but there are people in this world who cannot say that.

Beyond that I have amazing friends and loving family. :teeth:

I feel like Deb...get me going and I can't stop...but then I have sooooooooooooooooooooooo much to be thankful for that its easy to keep thinking of things! :teeth:

I am sooooooooooooooooooooo thankful for the amazing people who are and have been members of this site. I have been priviledged to meet many of you and I get to serve the needs of our community with some of the most incredible people including our Angels and Charlies, our Moderators and Admins, our Happy Hour and Event Planners, our Trip Coordinators and our staff DM's and Instructors. Without all of these people this site would not exist...or if it did it would be lifeless and boring or unruly and undesirable. Instead it is a wealth of knowledge, kindness, friendliness, warmth, sharing and caring. It is the most perfect place to me not because its perfect but because its filled with the perfect people!

Thank you all and I hope you all know that I am thankful for each and every one of you! Kamala

Simon that is wealthy by many standards. I am touched to see people recognize how much they really have rather than dwell on what they do not have. We'd all be better people if we focused on the good instead of the bad....kudos to you my dear! :teeth:

I am thankful that I have been able to do what it takes to be the primary caregiver for my Mom as she begins the last phase of her life in a home Hospice program, and the attendant drama all this year in relation to arriving at this point. Details of that particular saga is best left for another telling.

I am thankful that in spite of the above, I've finally been able to re-invent my career and ditch retailing by going to work at Cochran Undersea Technologies. I've dreamed of working in the SCUBA field--now I AM.

I am thankful for a particular woman who told me not to pursue a relationship with her--forcing me to re-evaluate myself and my behavior in such a way that should the opportunity ever come along again that I wont blow it by continuing to be an idiot and instead attempt to be a better man overall.

John again what depth, understanding and compassion you have achieved....not easily either but oh so worth it. It is easy to focus on what is not right and what we'd like and pretty soon we feel sorry for ourselves when in fact it can always be worse. By focusing on how good it is...or how we WANT it to be...our direction will change. We get what we focus on and we achieve what we put our energy into and we become what we dwell on.

I'm very happy you have been able to make the choices you've wanted out of life such as achieving a DREAM...changing careers and reinventing yourself and facilitate the choices that you had no control over such as caring for your mom. I hope others will be inspired to choose to do the same. :respect:

As an aside...

In the early days of SD when we were trying to do something different...working to be something different...people laughed and said it would never work. Fortunately I had a few people around me that were just as crazy as I and they helped to buffer some of the negative truth that everyone wanted us to see. Trust me its hard when people you care for deeply like parents and friends are convinced you will fail and you are wasting your time. However when you believe in something you need to continue pursuing that dream and while you can't trade your family...you may have to take a vacation from your friends for awhile in order to do something most people don't...stay committed to something long enough to see it succeed or fail but to see it to its natural outcome.

John it sounds like you've done this several times and we all are proud of you! Hugs my friend, kamala

And learning of some of your challenges has made me thankful that mine have been less challenging - though I know someday I will face if not the same, similar difficulties and know that since others have found the strength to do what needs to be done, so can I. Thank YOU for sharing.

I am very happy to have survived Hurricane Ike with a minimally damaged house, but even happier that I am in a position to help out others in my little town that were not so lucky. It can be very depressing at times to see G-town so damaged, especially now that FEMA has largely cleared out, and it is very evident that individuals and business-owners will bear the brunt of the costs of the recovery.

I am also happy that I have a beautiful one-year old granddaughter and that my sweetie and I are still together, despite still doing the Dallas-G-town long distance thing. Also, I have a great, albeit very challenging job.

Now, if I can just find the time to go diving soon, I'll be set.
Back after a long absence - whew, too busy at work!
