:cool1: ...I've been thinking about doing the Mona Island itinerary next season after seeing a couple of videos posted by others that have taken the trip including the YouTube video posted by Nekton which I've created a link to below.

How many Nekton Liveaboards can one do in a single year? This one could be number 3 for me! :thankyou:

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

The price of this trip will be $1745 and we'll have an early bird booking discount for our members. Add-on fees will be VERY INEXPENSIVE....there will be NO FUEL SURCHARGE and only $20 port fee, $20 communications fee and $125 round trip shuttle to the other side of the island and back.

This is a BRAND NEW DESTINATION and previously not easy to do as a land based op. Even Dan aka Scubatooth who lived and worked in Puerto Rico wasn't able to do this trip while he was a Diver's Alert Intern last year. I tried to put this trip together last year and had to abort due to vendors going out of business.

This will by far be one of our most unusual destinations in 2009!

Bruce it will be good to have you on this trip as the UW imagery possibilities are amazing from what i hear.

This trip isnt even open yet and im excited, to the point I will use a extra week of PTO that i intended to use in 2010 or take someone out at work to go on this trip I want to go so badly. As this is like the WW mentioned i didnt get to do when i was in PR for my DAN internship, and believe me i tried every way possible, and im chomping at the bit to go.

Part of this itinerary is on Descheo island where i got to dive a number of times and want to go back as the reefs are in immaculate shape and there are lobsters and crabs over 4' long (look dont touch as its a no take zone, with 100K fines). There is a dive site called the ceaveas (The caves... not really more like large open caverns) that i want to go back and shoot 2 images that i want to put on my wall to replace the ones i have currently. One image is the cavern with the light shaft coming in illuminating the floor below. The other image is of a form (preferentaly a lady on the trip) in a praying pose illuminated by the shaft of light.

WW let me go back through my images and i will post some images from descheo to give everyone a idea of what the diving is at Descheo which pails in comparison to Mona and Monito.

For those that dont know about Mona, it is a truly a jewel that is rarely seen. Mona gets less visitors a year then Antarctica, as it is a nature and marine reserve that is very closely guarded by DNR of Puerto Rico the reefs are in amazing condition and the variety is great from shallow reef to walls that drop off into 1000+ foot. this video does not do any justice to the island as the water is clear and visability is well in excess of 200 feet and sapphire blue. The variety of animals is so great you never know what your going to find. I have some more information on Mona and i will post it once i find it. One note on Mona is that it is known for some its currents similar to Cozy so something to keep a idea of when packing for the trip. This is the type of trip that i wish i was CCR certified so as to take advantage of the gas management and decompression advantages. If i had a CCR and cert the only reason i would come up would be dead camera/strobe batteries or full memory cards

WW if we can find one thats coming on the trip it would be good to have a professional videographer as well to tape the trip as i can photograph only so much and video would help to capture the rest of the story.

Come on everyone if you wanted a trip that rivals the Galapagos at a price that cant be beat this is one of them. Most important point of all is No Passport required for US Citizens.

Nekton uses steel 95 tanks.

Put me on the interested list. I was going to do the Bonaire trip but this may be more interesting.

Also what can you expect to see there in December. Mantas, whales? Is there truly a lot of large sea animals to see?
