I was on a recreational dive with a friend of mine. ( I won't use her name or she'll beat me up again) :teeth: Several divers were doing practice deco stops and safety stops when I was ascending and the line was full. So when I got to the gaggle I just let go and did a free ascent past the deepest of those hanging who I also know. I waved and exchanged ok's on the way by. when I got to about 15 feet my buddy was holding the line concentrating feverously on her gauges. knowing she did not see my approach and that my free ascent in rather good form if I do say so myself was also being observed.... Well the devil made me do it :teeth: I slid up over her where I wrapped my legs around her waist, grabbed her tank valve in one hand and I spurred and whipped with my free hand like it was the national finals rodeo. Both guys that saw it flooded their masks from laughing so hard. :D

And yes she beat me when we got back on the boat.

This sounds strangely familiar... Hmmm I think I might have seen this... but can't remember. My mask was flooded. :hiya:

While I personally did not participate in this prank, I think that the winner has to go to the makeover of Netmage's "Hello Kitty" tank. Some of Tim's friends, regulars of our CCR dive group, did this to Tim's tank after Tim accepted the offer to recondition his tank. Tim's Tank Makeover

OMG!!!! Posted Image Posted Image

My co-workers thought I was having hysterics, I was laughing so hard!

The real question is, do you have a reaction shot from Netmage?

While out diving in the local quarry we like to put a hot dog in the back of a fellow divers bcd. The Bluegills are all over this diver and he or she will finally realize whats going on and everyone just starts laughing until all of our masks are flooded.

I heard a similar story, except it was a sausage McBiscuit in a new instructors BC pocket. He had soooo many grunts around him that he couldn't even see his students.

Then you need to produce the photos. I know I caught you doing it, but I'm pretty sure no pics were taken! :D

WRONG!!! You caught her taking it off...

Been holding onto these for some time... :hiya:

Yeah the funny part was he thought the camera was for him so he took his mask off to 'smile for the camera' never realizing what was REALLY being photographed! :teeth:

I have been told that a fairly funny, yet innocent, prank is to put food coloring into someone's booties right before a dive. A different color in each boot works best, especially a bright one.

Not really an intentional prank - but I like to keep my light off during a nite dive. My buddy on one FG dive, who is a member and thus will remain nameless - was very unhappy when I was so dark I managed to get a shark to get pretty close to us. Didn't mean to startle her, but it did... to her credit she didn't bolt, but she was ready to disown me.

The only reason I was so freaked out was that it was my first real, non-class-related night dive. And it was a shark.

But that wasn't the first time you tried to pull something on me, intentional or not.

When he was working on his DM certification, he came to Lake Travis to map the Mansfield Dam Park. The visibility is less than poor - you can barely see your hand in front of your face, let alone your buddy. We were following the lines between the platforms and such, me in front. When I got to the next location, I turned around and he was gone. The first thing I did was look up, remembering that from class and thinking that would be something he would do. But he wasn't there. So I circled around and eventually we ran into each other. Even though I was still a new diver, I didn't bolt to the surface. Although, if we hadn't run into each other when we did, I would have surfaced (safely) to look form him then.

I remember it well - and you're right on all counts - not intentional - and you did as briefed, and we would have met on the surface. Can't brag enough about how proud I was you did NOT bolt.

I don't do too many pranks whilst scuba diving for the reasons elaborated in Moose's disclaimer.

BUT,

I will confess to swimming up to divers in my mermaid tail as they return to the dock at places like Buddy dive or Divi.

Also it's wicked fun to show up alongside unsuspecting divers at 40-50 feet without any gear (just mask fins and wetsuit)

As the lowbie DM for the dive shop I work with in Thailand, I was always the victim for rescue diving classes. After a week or two of being jostled, lost, found and half drowned I was allowed my revenge on the last day of the class. By this point the Rescue Diver students were used to the routine. At some point during the dive outing (usually during lunch) I would sneak over the side and put on my equipment on the way down. The missing diver call would go out, and they would have to find me (1/2 asleep on the bottom) then proceed to "save me" (usually by ramming my head into the ladder for some reason) The last day was different. We would do our dives by a local island that had a nice restaurant (fryied crams on the menu), some beach chairs, and Bacardi! So I would sneak over the side after my last dive of the day, and make for the beach and a Bacardi and coke. I would take their little shuttle back to the mainland. Right as the instructor was about to hand out the rescue diver certs he would look up and ask "Has anyone seen Hawkeye?" They would groan, get in their gear and plan another search and rescue.
They would do grids, spirals, and any other search you can think of. After everyone was worn out and back on the boat, he would either let them in on the gag, or string them along some more, depending the the class, and level of their cockiness. Usually he would sound the horn twice and point to the beach. My cue to stand and wave.

Now, all that being said. Having done this prank 5 or 6 times. I was completely surprised when the two female rescue diver students we had on one trip, actually found me on the beach. They explained that if I were a lost diver, it would make sense for me to make for the beach. Damn if I didn't have to put down my drink and make my way back to the boat with them.

When I was on the Palau Aggressor a couple years back, I got stuck with the roomie from HELL - she was Queen of the Snarks (she came with 3 other snarkettes). Luckily for me, the rest of the boat recognized this. My dive buddy had a rubber chicken - don't know where he got it from - and would attach it to her tank all the time. The rest of the us would just crack up. :;-+:

I cannot stand those types of "ladies." They were supposed to lose those traits after 6th grade for goodness sakes. What I don't understand is why people don't focus in on what we all have in common, diving. You don't have to be best friends to get along and dive well together. I am sure that people who feel the need to be this way are unhappy people.

We don't do a lot of underwater pranking here at home. Probably not a good idea to spook someone who is at 120 feet in current. Though I have been known to be rather entertaining at my safety stops.
For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), it's always ourselves we find in the sea....ee cummings
