I totally forgot the book that is always in my dry box in my dive bag at my station on the boat.
The DAN Pocket Guide to First aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries
For such a small book it has a mouth full for a name. Tons of quick references for all sorts of dive related injuries.

If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.

As I glance over my bookshelves (English major--you do the math):
Water and Light (A Diver's Journey to a Coral Reef) by Stephen Harrigan
Explorations by Robert Ballard
Neutral Bouyancy (Adventures in a Liquid World) by Tim Ecott
Deep Descent by Kevin McMurray
The Last Dive by Bernie Chowdhury
Submerged by Daniel Lenihan
Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson
Diver Down by Michael Ange
Down Time (writings on diving by various authors--I loaned it out and never got it back, so I couldn't tell you the name of the editor off the top of my head)
Plus the usual assortment of manuals and reef critter ID books. Then there are the submarine and U-Boat books. Then there is the historic nautical fiction by Patrick O'Brian and C.S. Forester
An oldie but goodie, in my collection of vintage SciFi--The Deep Range by Arthur C. Clarke; also Dolphin Island by the same author.
I pick up diving related books, fiction and non, wherever I can. So many books, so little time....

I just finished Cousteau's "Silent World" and Sheck Exley's "Cavern: Limitless to Man". I found Cousteau's book to be better written and more interesting (to me). It was originally published in 1953 but National Geographic has republished it now so it's widely available.

Seriously,I was in Borders recently ,saw it on the shelf.Good to know .I'll add it to a get list.

This one is a hilarious, sarcastic look at what EVERY diver should know about diving etiquette.
I think every certification agency should give a copy of this to every student!
If you don't appreciate sarcasm, you can still learn what to do/not do on a dive boat,
both day boat and liveaboard!!
