Ironically I'm taking a break from doing just that. I have been going through and sorting items out so I can either put them up for sale or check the insurance list to see if it's on there or not on the insured items list.

For those looking at insuring there five gear I would reccommend you not put them on a homeowners policy but rather a personel articles policy as it's much cheaper and won't have a effect on your homeowners policy if there is a claim.

I haven't looked into the DAN insurance option,I understand they have such a policy, not informed of the cost.Sure it's a % of value.

My policy isn't through DAN it's through state farm and I only pay 1.84 - 2.07% based on values submitted. Pretty good deal to the other plans out there.

Dan GREAT idea...I never would have thought of that and that rate is TONS cheaper than DAN's. :banghead:

Well when I went looking for insurance I looked at alot of options as I had more to cover then just dive gear but also camera gear. My policy is going to get a large jump in amount covered and in variety as now I have more dive and camera gear as well as artwork, electronics, computers, and historical artifacts/rare coins.

also on the rates that's based off my location as the policy is actually underwritten by state farm fire & property section. In any case cheaper then DAN

:dancing: Thats what I keep telling people I've mentioned this site to.Its communication like this that we learn from our peers here. Thanks ,I have Farmers I'll check to see if they would cover such. The one thing I will say about DAN is that their Diver policy is very reasonable .

Greg

Hey I learned alot of this after alot of research as when i started this policy set I had a list of items that bridged a couple of areas, and as the years go on it keeps expanding to the point its almost scary the values and number of items on the policy. The best thing about this policy i have had several claims (I have one open right now) and none have effected my rating or rates, and the payouts have been as high as high 4 digits. You definately cant say that if it was attached to your home owners policy

with state farm this type of policy is called a "personal articles policy" but with other carriers it might be listed as a Inland Marine Policy for items and equipment that maybe used on the water.

YMMV
