As a side topic, (MOMMY BRAG, here)...my son's 5th grade class was invited to read poetry at Barnes & Noble earlier this week. It was a variety of poems, some long and some short. Some kids have a notebook of their work and read about 3 each. Maybe 5 minutes in front of the microphone.
And after a boy who clearly had a lot to share, it was then my son's turn. He goes to the front and says: "OK. I'm about to tell you a Haiku. <dramatic pause> It is short. <another dramatic pause> But that is what Haiku's do." And then he reads it from his head and of course that takes like 2 seconds. Says thank you, and walks back to his seat.
Mission accomplished. And for doing this service, he got a "free dress day" pass where he doesn't have to wear his uniform....gotta love his humor! Many parents approached me saying they will remember my son's participation, and how they enjoyed it. Haha.
