The good news is that much of Florida may be spared much of the direct damages possible after all. Accessed via http://www.crownweat...m/tropical.html

HURRICANE IVAN ADVISORY NUMBER  44
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
5 AM EDT MON SEP 13 2004

A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR CUBA FROM PINAR DEL RIO TO
CIEGO DE AVILA INCLUDING THE ISLE OF YOUTH.  A HURRICANE WARNING
MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE WARNING
AREA WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.  PREPARATIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND
PROPERTY SHOULD BE RUSHED TO COMPLETION.

A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE REST OF CUBA.

AT 5 AM EDT..0900Z...THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO HAS ISSUED A HURRICANE
WARNING FOR THE NORTHEASTERN YUCATAN PENINSULA FROM TULUM TO
PROGRESO.

A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE CAYMAN ISLANDS...BUT
WILL LIKELY BE LOWERED LATER TODAY.

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM
THE SEVEN MILE BRIDGE WESTWARD TO THE DRY TORTUGAS.  THIS WATCH
COULD BE LOWERED LATER TODAY.

Sadly, Cozumel seems to be in line for a hit. I'll bet the cruise boats had a race to get from between the hammer & anvil. "Shall we run for Flower Gardens or Belize, Capt?" A vessel can run out of ocean in that part of the sea; many have over the years.

Looks like our friends in Roatan were a little close, but were missed nonetheless.

And looks like Ft.Myers may be a safer place to watch than Mississippi. :teeth:

I left Cancun on Saturday evening, and I was shocked to see vacationers getting off the plane to go to Cancun.

Couple of super maps added to that site today - wind speeds and bands. Gives me a better understanding of how one wide swath can be devastated by 161 mph (don't have that in Cdn$?) winds, then a few miles away - 50k mph winds doing minimal damage.

I copied them to load here, but this forum doesn't take picutres.

Don, e-mail them to me, I'll upload them for you.

My email is screwed up, so I PMed Walter with instructions on how easy it is to find those charts - right before they got pulled. :wakawaka: My life.

I'll post them somewhere else, so y'all can see what I was excited about.

They just gave an update on ivan. Its moving due north. Looks like landfall between pascagoula,ms and mobile after midnight. New orleans is going to get some serious flooding. Here in central ms all the hotels/motels are full. the next vacancies are in memphis, tn. Its going to be a bad one. I may do athens a week early. :wakawaka:

We won't know for sure until it happens, but current projections are for Jeanne to miss Florida.

From the radio this morning, folks from LA are heading to Houston to escape, but most hotels/motels are filling up or are full.

If anyone makes it to Houston and needs a place to stay, I've got a spare bedroom.
