I just saw the headline on Rina, I'll be watching the thread for news.

I'm guessing at the very least this will kick up some sand for our dives this weekend.

**fingers crossed**
Peace of mind? It's a Piece of Cake.

Well, diving is cancelled for today, and I am guessing the earliest the port will re-open will be Friday as the storm isn't supposed to get past here till Thursday.

Stay Tuned..

IMPORTANT TRIP UPDATE:

Word from the Resort:

I got the following from the dive shop. So tomorrow we'll make a final go/no go decision.

Hola Kamala:
George is here but the port is closed.
The hurricane is 245miles away from here, tomorrow we will know for sure what is going to happen
Del Mar Aquatics

Trip Insurance:

Pls contact your trip insurance policy to see how this looming storm will affect your claim. It is IMPERATIVE that you do what they tell you to do regarding CANCELLATION PROOF so they will not reject your claim. Start making those calls now. Because trip insurance is practically mandatory I am not clear what the refund status will be. So plan to file on your trip insurance. BUT CALL THEM FIRST SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOUR OPTIONS ARE. Drill down to see what proof they need so you can properly supply it. Thank you! Kamala

p.s. Call your trip insurance to see what they tell you. Kamala

FWIW my carrier said filing a claim requires either the common carrier or the tour operator to cancel - which makes sense, I can't just say "hurricane" and back out myself.

So we'll wait and see. .

Thank you! That is what I figured. I hope everyone can wait intil tomorrow when the tour operator will make a decision one way or the other. Kamala

FWIW, The NHC is saying it's unlikely to become a cyclone. I think I'm reading this right as mostly good news posted 2 PM EDT October 25.

THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE...20 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICALCYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS ARE POSSIBLE OVER ARUBA...CURACAO ANDBONAIRE...THE NORTHWESTERN COAST OF VENEZUELA...AND THENORTHEASTERN COAST OF COLOMBIA TODAY. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION...PLEASE SEE REFER TO YOUR LOCAL WEATHER OFFICE.ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THENEXT 48 HOURS.
Peace of mind? It's a Piece of Cake.

Not to bring bad news to anyone, but I believe that you are looking at a different system. The storm in question is presently a cat 2 hurricane with 105 mile per hour winds. It has formed very quickly, as yesterday morning it had only turned into a tropical depression. http://www.stormpulse.com/ I am using this link. I believe that Simon was the person that shared the link several months ago. Ed

IMPORTANT TRIP UPDATE:

The resort has sporadic internet so my contact at the resort just called me. The airlines will not be allowing people to arrive on the island. :tears:

She will be helping George to get back off the island and the hotels will be bracing for the storm.

So start to contact your insurance companies and advise them the tour operator has indicated the airline are not allowing people to come to Cozumel and anyone arriving via Cancun will be stranded.

*DO NOT FLY TO MEXICO*

We'll discuss this further in the private forum HERE.
