Obviously we won't do this trip for the 4th of July BUT we are still looking at doing this perennial favorite in 2012. Will doing it a non-holiday weekend make any difference to anyone?

And is this still someplace you want to dive?

Note that NC is best in either June, July or August.

yes I am interested. When... I am voting for after July 4. It was still cold on July 4 last year but I can bring my 5mm instead of of 3 and be ok.

Good point...if the Gulf Stream lags in making its way North...it will still be chilly in June and this case early July. We have had July 4th weekends that were downright HOT water with bottom temps being 80-82.

So it ALL DEPENDS ON THE GULF STREAM!!!

But I'll shoot for later vs. earlier if we still do this trip!

Kamala,I'm,still interested..I have an idea.Is it possible that Bill could relay a report as to the temps as early as possible,so as not to jepordize your plans? If as you say the current DOES NOT make it,then a later date could be set.????Otherwise,yes after July 4th

it wasn't terribly cold last year. 70 or so and only on the bottom... WHERE THE WRECKS ARE Bring a cold wetsuit and a warm wetsuit and it will be fine. Took me by surprise last year with my 3mil in 70F water.

I see 4 names on this list so far that will probably want deco bottles also. Would it be possible to plan that in or would we stay recreational only like last year?

We CAN do a recreational and deco mix...but I need to have OTWDiver on the boat as a laison with the boat capt. His schedule is getting very tight these days so I'll have to look into other options.

By not having the weekend on the 4th of July we'll have more opportunities.

Also keep in mind that to even consider doing a slightly more tech profile we'll need to book the whole boat which is 18 divers. Given other discussions this may be tough to do hence the EARLY discussion of the feasibility of running this trip next year.

On the plus side...it can be a drive for many and an easier airline ticket for the rest.

Depending on how things go this year, I'd be interested in doing this but no later than late July with start of school year beginning the first week of August. My 2 cents.

I'm OK any time but really don't want it REAL late like Sea Festival as they usually get ROUGH seas ....so I've heard Mid week is also good ..for savings Right-Huh?-?-?-Right-Huh?-?-? I'll be there, PLEASE tell me WHEN

I'm in for this one. as for the gulf stream it moves on a continual basis. I've been out and moved from one wreck to another and the conditions are very different. one was cool and green and the vis 35 feet or so then a half hour ride to the second wreck to find blue water 80 feet of vis and warm water. but as stated before later in the season runs the best chance of great conditions.

I was there over Memorial Day and although I dove dry, everyone who dove 5 MM's were comfortable. I"m limited to weekends and if we are voting :-) I would greatly prefer a holiday weekend, and would certainly take advantage of the ability to extend my bottom time as well.

Hey girl...I hope you can join us but we can't do Memorial Day as we have Dominica scheduled and 4th is out as we have Holbox and Cenotes scheduled and Labor Day is out as we have Mayaguana scheduled for 2012.

So that leaves regular weekends. Plus to make it worthwhile we need to do at least 3 days of diving. For those who fly in that means 3 days of diving and 2 days of travel. For those who drive they can cut some of that back but it makes for long ugly drives.

So if we do this in 2012 it will be at least 3 days and it will not be over a holiday as they are already booked.
