We will add you to the list :) and here is some add'l information about the diving in Mayaguana now that I have dove it again for the 2nd time...

1. It is VERY pristine and virgin coral and reef structure 65-70 and DEEPER.... the shallow reef structures has been hit by many a hurricane and is nothing special at all. In some cases you can see where HUGE chunks of coral have been broken off the upper reef structure and lie in the sand as testament to the ferocity of past storms. (I'll post some video when I can.)

2. Also because the reefs are deeper the breeding grounds for baby fish are also deeper which means less fish. Compound this with the over run of lionfish... We killed over 100 during our trip...some of our divers were disappointed in smaller fish counts and lack of bottom time as the week went on due to the constant deeper depths.

3. I did notice that there were fewer lionfish this year than last...but there were fewer fish in general which means they may be eating themselves out of a food supply. However they also cause other species to lose their food supply so diminish all the fish that eat the same foods as they do. :( Don't get me wrong...there were plenty of fish...but not the quantity you would expect from a place never really dove before AND the local fishing population does not overfish.

4. Speaking of local fishing...we had the rare opportunity to help the local fishermen and have some of the BEST seafood you could have ever wanted. In addition to the delicious lionfish that we shot ourselves we had lobster and some of us has grouper from the local fish market. (The local market was two wire spool wheels turned upside down to show their wares). Next year we'll organize a local fish purchase for the group to have fresh fish and help the locals.

5. They REALLY appreciated the school supplies...so we will do that again as well.

So for those who love an adventure or for those who want to see pristine coral and sponge formations... some of which have nary been seen by divers... THIS IS THE PLACE and POSSIBLY ONE OF THE LAST PLACES IN THE WORLD TO SEE WHAT THE OCEANS LOOKED LIKE WHEN JACQUES COUSTEAU WAS DIVING!!!

I don't have anything planned over these dates, so let's revitalize this thread by adding me to the interested list.

NOTE: Would the people interested in this trip pls respond to a pm going out shortly as well as in this thread or in THIS thread on SD or in our topic on it on facebook as to whether we should change the venue to T&C for $100 a head less per person on all room types before SD booking discounts or leave it as Mayaguana since that destination is so rare?? :thankyou: This trip is ready for booking but we need to finalize the ultimate destination.

p.s Can you tell us if the deciding factor is price or the destination? :thankyou:

:thankyou: for the reminder...it will be T&C due to the feedback I've rec'd.

I hope those who had wanted Mayaguana with me will consider doing it next year...but this year it will be Turks and Caicos!
