Thanks Scott for the link.
Ariane Forster (aka Ari Up) was the lead singer for a pivotal all-girl punk group in the late 70's called The Slits. The group featured Viv Albertine on guitar, Tessa Pollitt on bass, and Paloma Romero (aka Palmolive) on drums. In addition to her over-the-top flamboyant style, Ari also brought an unique mix of punk and reggae to the group's music.
I first discovered them while working as a volunteer programmer at KPFT FM in Houston circa 1991. They broke up in the early '80's.
I had no idea that they had not only reformed, but were recording and touring, until well after Ari's unexpected death last fall.
So very sad.
