LIONFISH UPDATE:

Hey gang...Lionfish are SUCH an invasive problem all over the Caribbean but certainly Roatan. Roatan has been actively working to resolve the problem and offers several programs we can take advantage of.

1. SD has set up a presentation for SUNDAY evening to learn more about them.
2. We'll have a chance to dive with Nic the marine park's director for a fun dive on Sunday afternoon.
3. Those wanting to do the lionfish class to learn to hunt them will learn more in the Sunday presentation and then will do some in water work on Monday.
4. If we have more then 10-12 people wanting to do the class we'll offer two sessions but we need to know who's interested.
5. The class is $50 which includes your marine park licensing fee for 2 years, a spear* and the class. This is a GREAT DEAL!!!


*The marine park graciously accepts donations back at the end of the week of your spear so that local DM's and others can continue the fight. They may offer a discount for giving the spear back but most people just allow the park to keep those monies to keep up the fight!


THOSE WANTING TO DO THE LIONFISH CLASS & MAKE $50 DONATION:

Hi Kamala I spoke to Mirta and decided that what would probably work best if for me to turn up on the Sunday afternoon, have a fun dive, and then make the presentation that evening. If people are interested in doing the lionfish license, we can either do the paperwork etc that evening and then the next morning do the in water stuff. The lionfish course takes about 30 minutes above water and then we can spend the dive in the morning doing the course and hunting. The course is $50 for the paperwork, the in water test, a license which last 2 years and the spear. You can donate the spear back at the end of the week and help local divers to hunt lionfish. I can probably do 10-12 people per dive so if there are more than that, I will stay for a second dive and license them.

Tell me what your party wants to do and we can go from there

Add me to the Lionfish class, and costume is going to be a killer, so get your glad rags together, and come meet some of my kin folk who will be on the trip and a 14 year old getting certified with his uncle and grandmother there to see it. What a hoot and a blast, so come on down to Roatan for the time of your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

While I'm interested in the solo diver course, I don't quite have enough dives yet... Then again, diving the wreck on the Cayman Brac trip really got me interested. I don't have a backup reg, and will need to rent one.

Please put me down for:
Wreck dive course + C-Card (I'll pick up the book locally)
Night boat dive (I had this in my booking template, but I guess I forgot to pay for it)
I'm still interested in the shark dive, I'll send the cost difference

Let me know if I'm missing anything else, and I'll send payment this evening.

The rental of reg, bottle and bands to carry the pony bottle/redundant air supply will be $50 for the class no matter how many days it takes to do your dives.

Thank you for opting for the Wreck class...its a good one and the instructor quite accomplished. And thanks for paying for the night dive, shark dive balance and of course the wreck class + c-card.

Is that license JUST for Roatan's Marine Park?
