LIONFISH UPDATE:

Hey gang...Lionfish are SUCH an invasive problem all over the Caribbean but certainly Roatan. Roatan has been actively working to resolve the problem and offers several programs we can take advantage of.

1. SD has set up a presentation for SUNDAY evening to learn more about them.
2. We'll have a chance to dive with Nic the marine park's director for a fun dive on Sunday afternoon.
3. Those wanting to do the lionfish class to learn to hunt them will learn more in the Sunday presentation and then will do some in water work on Monday.
4. If we have more then 10-12 people wanting to do the class we'll offer two sessions but we need to know who's interested.
5. The class is $50 which includes your marine park licensing fee for 2 years, a spear* and the class. This is a GREAT DEAL!!!


*The marine park graciously accepts donations back at the end of the week of your spear so that local DM's and others can continue the fight. They may offer a discount for giving the spear back but most people just allow the park to keep those monies to keep up the fight!

Hi Kamala I spoke to Mirta and decided that what would probably work best if for me to turn up on the Sunday afternoon, have a fun dive, and then make the presentation that evening. If people are interested in doing the lionfish license, we can either do the paperwork etc that evening and then the next morning do the in water stuff. The lionfish course takes about 30 minutes above water and then we can spend the dive in the morning doing the course and hunting. The course is $50 for the paperwork, the in water test, a license which last 2 years and the spear. You can donate the spear back at the end of the week and help local divers to hunt lionfish. I can probably do 10-12 people per dive so if there are more than that, I will stay for a second dive and license them.

And I suspect, where the West End is gets many more divers and is kept relatively lionfish free, we will have far more down on the sites on our end. When we dove Morat Wall last year, they were all over the place.

Actually you can take a nitrox tank with you for the dive. So no extra charge for the nitrox tank if you take it with you...its part of your pkg of nitrox IF you take it with your gear. And yes about 50% do this and 50% don't.

Hey gang...we REALLY appreciate your getting your final invoices paid in full for your extras.

As you can imagine we are processing a ton of payments and more importantly trying to determine who may still owe money and documents or missing info. And we are trying to accommodate ALL the requests we are getting for special needs on this trip, classes, etc.
