Ok so tax day is tomorrow and the celebration begins shortly thereafter. How many of our members:

1. Have their taxes done already?
2. Will have them done by midnight tomorrow?
3. Will be filing an extension?

Regardless I hope today and tomorrow go as planned for you and me! ;)

No celebration here. I can't do mine on time so I always file extensions. This year, I had to pay $3000 dollars worth of money that will likely be owed to do so.

Due to some of the investment vehicles I am in, I have some late arriving investment reports which always get corrected multiple times. And there are some other issues too. So that pushes me too close to the deadline. My tax deadline is therefore October. I always aim for summer.

People who file extensions and who have paid preparers are less likely to get audited. My brother got audited last year, and it was not fun.

Had all my docs before the end of January this year, and since some things changed in the 4th quarter for me that created a refund situation, I filed before 1/31/12, got my refunds by mid-February, and put the money into my flights for the Cayman Brac trip! :cool1:

Yeah, I filed back the first week of February once I realized I was getting a refund. No reason to let the government hold onto my money interest free any longer than it has to.

I thought tax Freedom Day was the day we stopped working to pay our taxes and the day we start working for ourselves? For me, that falls sometime in May.

Yes you are CORRECT...the real tax freedom day is the day we:'ve earned enough money to stop paying the govt and start paying ourselves.

However I see it as a 2 step holiday... the first is getting over the hump and the second is the day we start paying ourselves! :teeth

Well I'm gunning to make the deadline but technically I had to file an extension. As a small peanut in the world of taxes and tax clients (although it feels like I'm a HUGE NUT... oh wait that's a different thread!) ;) if I don't get my prep work done by Jan, then my accountants can't squeeze me in. Since I've been with them for almost all of SD's existence and they are licensed in both TX and SC...it did not make sense to switch. What they lose in volume they gain in reasonableness price wise so I stay with them. But I still try to get the ordeal done while the rest of the world is focused on it so its behind me. :banghead:
