Its the Holidays again... LOL! And its time to buy gifts for family and friends. Do you get them gifts? Gift cards? Do you prefer gifts or gift cards?

I prefer to receive and give things that can be consumed. I have enough crap in my house. Most people do. Now I will make an exception if my many childrened brother wishes to give me his 2 seater Porsche. After all, the garage has room.

It depends on the gift and who is giving it. Gift cards are pretty impersonal. So I like to mix it up and give a small gift + a gift card for my family.

I agree, I meant consumables like massages, wine, food, services, etc for the adults. Sometimes stuff if there is something particular that they need. Kids I prefer to pick something particular. I do gift cards only for the Tweens in the family because they love it. Though the GameStop one made me realize how damn old I am. I mean, what is all of that stuff. We had Atari pong.

I used to be 100% opposed to the gift card thing...but Amazon gift cards have become my favorite for the person that is difficult to buy for as they can pretty much get whatever they want. Half my family now opts out for gift cards...its the electronic version of consumables in a way I guess...
Those in my family that ask for gifts I make sure I get them gifts. The ones that ask for gift cards never seemed to like my gifts so the card works and in a way its making xmas easier as well since its a pretty easy way to shop.
My niece still wants presents even though my nephew wants gift cards so I'll get them each what they want. I guess Sharklover is right...my nephew is a teen now so that makes sense.
I am also getting gift cards for my husband's kids and their respective families as I do not know them well enough to buy personal presents for them and I do not always see them around the holidays. The cards allow me to give them gifts without a lot of expensive shipping and no return hassles.

The only people I buy for anymore are my two sons, who are both teenagers. With them, cash is king. I prefer it that way, too. They can spend the money on things that they want & pick them out themselves. Plus, zero hassle for me. Win-win. />/>

I do gift cards sometimes, but I prefer to pick something specific for each person. I only buy for my sisters and their husbands these days! My nieces and nephews are grown now and have LOTS of kids!! No way I could buy for them all.
I have struggled this year on what to buy the sisters. It's strange what can come to your mind when you're working nights and walking around in a zombie state!! I figured it out just this morning....coming off my last graveyard!!

If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.
