Hey Kamala,

I'm still contemplating paying in full by 2/3/13 deadline. Just got to check some upcoming expenses, like Roatan. Also, I want to TBD the extra nites, I think I'll follow your lead and take the extra time to make sure my luggage makes it with me.

Thanks

And Jose are you going to be paying for the full trip by the 2-3-13 deadline? If not we'll tweak your booking template!

Dive assure does not let you get trip insurance more than 365 days out. I have a basic DAN membership but the expense of this trip plus the time until the trip and unknown length of trip are making it difficult to know my options with dive insurance and trip insurance.

No worries...you don't have to decide on the extra days right now as I do not have the pricing nor configuration for it. As for paying Roatan, I can be flexible on your payments so shoot me a message with your ideas and we'll see if we can make them float. Thank you, Kamala

Does DAN have a similar 1 year limitation?

I was able to purchase it for Dive Assure it just made me renew my membership for another year (although the renewal expiration didn't go past/to the trip dates - expiration shows as 7/2014 & trip is 12/2014).

So it can be done but is very finicky about it. Posted Image Posted Image

DAN doesn't have the one year limit for trip insurance. I already got my trip insurance from DAN.

I paid the rest of my balance today. (except for Nitrox- do I pay that now or later?)
My 3 forms should be in.

Question about travel insurance though- it didn't look like I had to buy it that soon? Plus don't know how much the airfare will be, which will change the total price covered. Any suggestions???

Oh, I forgot. I did not get the private email for the password for the trip documents, so I have not done the EV Waiver yet... since I can't get to it. Please help me finish my forms! Thanks. :D

I am guessing the total trip cost will be the liveaboard, extra days, and airfare (~$1500) and using that total to get trip insurance quotes. You basically pay for the coverage you want as payout is related to your original guess at total trip cost. Definitely looks like DAN has a better quote since they will actually cover cancellation this far out. The main thing is that most trip insurance requires coverage within a few weeks of initial deposit (especially if you have any pre-existing conditions like current/past medical issues) , which for most of us is Jan. 20, 2013. So...definitely good to investigate plans. I know from experience that things happen (to self or family) that could cause someone to potentially miss a trip.

MR you can wait to pay the nitrox.

Amy & Others...I many times prefer DiveAssure especially on the DIVE INSURANCE SIDE but also find them easier to work with on the TRIP insurance policies as well.

However if you can not buy a Dive Assure policy then DAN is fine.

As Amy says..."crap happens...sometimes to others...but not very often".

I have dive insurance but I don't understand the reason for trip insurance to be mandatory. If the trip is paid for who loses but the person that paid for the trip? I have saved enough money over the last 30 years to more than pay for a trip.

I was able to obtain the policy last week from DAN. For estimating purposes, I valued the trip at $6K. Close enough. I found the airfare to be around $1K. With additional charges, I feel the $6K is probably a good number. K, I, too, am interested in arriving early to ensure my things arrive. Not so concerned with the departure.

:thankyou:/>

Steve...a trip of this magnitude in price AND distance in the future is extremely risky for the trip taker. Compounded is if your luggage arrives late...you will not get it back until we arrive back in Quito AFTER the trip. If you miss the boat...you miss the trip. If you have flight delays then you could miss the boat.

OTOH...if you arrive a few days early to make sure YOU and your luggage arrives AND you pay for the trip in full for the early booking discount and you post that you are assuming all liability for missing the trip for any reason then you can waive the trip insurance. That way all parties are protected if we can not fill your spot if you are unable to go. -ww
