Well, with the price of flights as low as $675 RT on AA, albeit with an overnight in San Juan each way, put me down for May 24-May 31.

George, I'm also seeing $750s for a flight from Chicago to DOM. 1 stop between with a long layover. I was using Kayak to find it so I can't see the details as to exactly how long the layover is and where it would be though. For someone willing to wing it a little I guess that's a pretty cheap flight to get there.Well, with the price of flights as low as $675 RT on AA, albeit with an overnight in San Juan each way, put me down for May 24-May 31.

For the ones that I was looking at it seemed like the layovers were anywhere from 28-34 hrs, if I remember correctly. So as you mentioned George, that might mean a night in a hotel each way somewhere or a REALLY long layover at the airport. If a hotel room is used that bumps up the cost a bit. I'm not sure if I could handle a layover in an airport of more than 12 hrs. I know I would run out of things to do after a while and would want a place to shower. Sadly even though the prices are cheap I'll have to wait to make any decisions on next year's trips until after Truk & Palau. I'm hoping for something in the Oct/Nov range at least right now.George, I'm also seeing $750s for a flight from Chicago to DOM. 1 stop between with a long layover. I had done the same thing, which is frustrating when they don't give the details. I then used the search engine www.vayama.com which showed it to be AA.
Going to AA's website, the price isn't quite that cheap, but OTOH, I can select my flights and get better times than the combo Vayama is offering and shave about 12 hours off the travel time. I could really cut it down with no long layovers, but that flight combo comes up as $1347 RT.

Thanks Kamala. Assuming a layover in SJU I looked at a hotel that seems like it's within the airport (keeping commute time down) and the going rate is $119 per night.AA has traditionally had a layover in SJU. I am not surprised that the new routing and return of AA.com to Dominica will result in a layover in SJU.
Going via SXM or Antigua etc via BVI will allow you to get there in 1 day. You can also get there in one day via LIAT. The latter does not allow as much luggage and *typically* has a bit higher customer complaint level. However all small carriers will have issues going to small islands...its the nature of the beast.

It's not open for booking yet. However, the dates are locked in so you can start pricing air if you like.
