Article on hunting success... http://www.latimes.c...y#axzz2rTX9wVMr

Suzy, thanks for the bump and the interesting article. I realized I have not posted a vote yet on this topic, so as of now I am officially on the Lionfish Safari bandwagon! :diver:

I envision the chance for people to hunt during our Fl trip this summer in August if they wish. Brad refresh my memory on permits needed if any for lionfish?

As I recall there was no license required and no bag limit on Lionfish ONLY last July. Any FL locals with more current information please feel free to chime in. :respect:

This topic came up when I was in Cozumel this week as we saw 4 lionfish total in 6 dives, one that was medium size on Punta Sur, and then the other three were all very small, maybe the size of a 1/2 dollar.

Our Divemaster, Edgar, actually has a group that comes down specifically for lionfish hunting and he says nowadays they have to go further east either on the north end or south end of the island, that the west side where most of the dive sites are pretty much cleaned out. During the competitions now they have to go deep (>150 feet) to find any volume of them worth it for the competition.

The other issue is that the ones that are left have learned to fear divers, which makes killing them much more difficult.
