Ed as you know we work very hard to set these things up BEFORE the trip so that they WILL happen. Otherwise I spend the whole trip asking who wants to do an extra dive...many will say yes and then we can't agree on a day and when we do all of a sudden we don't have enough to make it happen. So if I can set up in advance we can plan for it properly and it will happen as anticipated. But best of all...EVERYONE IS HAPPY THIS WAY!!!

Of course we also find out if there are not enough people to make something happen which at least takes the sting out of thinking you were going to get to do something only to find out that you can't.

Having said all of that...your case if unique... you have a back that can go at anytime so in your case ONLY I always allow you to join into something if A) It is happening and B) your back cooperates.

Thanks for the opportunity to explain why we do things the way we do... and of course to share why I make an exception for you. :respect:

I definitely want extra dives IF I am able to do them. As you know, I will only know that when I am there though. I am seriously considering skipping jellyfish lake on this trip, to give me a better chance for an extra dive or two. Hopefully I do not need to make any final decisions until that day. E

I'm skipping Jellyfish lake. I would like to do the optional dives Fish'N Fins offers on their web site to dive Pelilu and then do the land tour of this very important WWII site. Anyone else interested in joining me?

I fully understand, and greatly appreciate that. I figure that if something is planned, and there is room for me to get added last minute, great. If there is not room, my loss, and fully understandable. Hopefully this trip works better than the Florida trip where I was only able to do 13 of the 18 dives. Thanks.

I recall being very interested in this on the last trip. Here is a link to the diving there. I believe Jerry mentioned they did a dive / land tour combo, which I think he is talking about. I do know that the Truk people said this is their windy season. Peleliu is a long run, so if we have wind in Palau, it is questionable if it would even be an option. If doable, it looks like a great option.

Peleliu was the site of one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the island hopping campaign of WWII. Over 1700 US and almost 10,000 Japanese were killed and many more wounded in the effort to extract the Japanese from this very small island. For a quick look do a search on Wikipedia and you can get a good idea of the stakes on the line for Peleliu. The second part is Peleliu is way off the beaten path and many artifacts and memorials are there for those willing to put forth the effort to see them. To me it seems a shame to be right there and not take a couple hours and visit in person. The dive shop we are using lists a two dive and land tour package of Peleliu for a very reasonable price.

Jerry, if we play it by ear (I'm not sure I would want to commit just yet) when we get to Palau this also might interest me. We could decide soon once we got there if it's still an option. We would still get the diving in but also a nice land tour with what I'm sure are some beautiful areas of the island.

It shows $85 for the trip per person but I wonder if because we already paid for two boat dives per day if they would be willing to give us a slight discount on the dive portion. I'm sure this is farther than their normal boat dive trips so I can understand if it's not a full discount for the two dives in Pelilu. I know Kamala is setting up a number of other things already so I wouldn't want to add this to the mix necessarily.

Hello,

I'm in for Peleliu diving day (2 dives)* + WW II Land Tour. It sounds fun. I don't mind skipping the jelly lake snorkel.

I would not expect any discount based on having already paid for the diving day, unless the Wench can work some magic. Even with that, i would expect very little. I believe it is a surcharge over a regular day of diving due to the distance they need to run to bring people there. I would guess that there is also a fee for a guide for the land based portion, as I could not believe that it would be an unescorted tour. There may also be a fee attached to touring the island. That said, I agree with Jerry. Palau is a long way to travel to, a lot of money to do, and this looks like a fabulous add on if it is do able. I vote for it. Ed

Ed, I agree with you. I wouldn't expect much and if Kamala doesn't have time to check I'm OK with that. You're probably correct about the fee being an additional surcharge on top of a normal diving package although from the website it's not clear. I also agree and hope that there is likely a guide for the trip that would come along with us to tour the island. From what I've read the marine park pass including jelly fish lake seems to include access to most of the areas in Palau. If the tour w/ diving ends up heading north of $100 I'll have to reconsider.

Depending on how things workout it might in fact be a spectacular addition.

Jerry- Are you ill? Skipping Jellyfish Lake?!?!?!? That was one of the most relaxing afternoons I remember. A very zen kind of snorkel.

Kamala, As for extra dives I know I said no for most of them but I will be a flex guy for you the other way. At the last minute if you need an extra guy to make a trip happen I will "sacrifice" :teeth: :teeth: myself to help out the group! My life has been crazy the last year and I am looking forward to some down time as well as bubble time.

Thanks Kamala! I am super excited!
As requested, I am planing on arriving on the night of the 16th, so I will need a room for that night, preferably a double occupancy, and would love to do a dive or double tank on the 17th if possible.

Since I am a late joiner to the dive group and only doing the week in Palau, I am wanting to do as many dives as possible.. 3-4/day.
Are there others who are interested in doing more dives than what is included as well?
fyi--paid for night dive and Nautilus dive but unsure of how to sign up.
Thanks!! Can't wait to meet everyone Posted Image

~cheryl "Starfish Girl"

Cheryl, Depending on how I feel after a week diving in Truk Lagoon I'm definitely up for more diving if possible. Welcome to the trip!! Posted Image

Thanks! Yay, for more diving. ha!

Notice to all Palau peeps. Please go to this link in the special discussion section and let everyone know what you would like to do in Palau. Those of us (WW included) who are doing Truk first will be out of communication most, if not all of the week prior to Palau. Thanks everyone and I’m looking forward to Palau again. Absolutely fabulous diving!! http://www.singlediv...post__p__315791

Thanks Jerry. Appreciate the help. I plan on sending messages out tonight.

Your completely correct from my knowledge about being out of touch. I know I checked with Sprint and the last place I can get service (with extra charges) is in Guam. Palau and Truk are not listed as places where service even exists (at least for Sprint cell service.)
