Ok so my email is LOADED with Black Friday sales and heck I even offered one on the Maldives Trip not to mention Cyber Monday deals.
So it got me thinking...
1. Do you take advantage of these deals?
2. Do you plan your shopping around them?
3. Do they encourage you to buy things you would not normally do because the deal is so good?
4. Are they overrated and not much better than other deals this time of year?
BLACK FRIDAY and Cyber Monday.... Yes? No? Sometimes?

I usually have to work on Friday but even if I didn't I can't imagine heading out. I'm certainly not going to stand outside in the middle of the night waiting for a store to open. I've heard (although since I rarely do the holiday sales I have no actual personnel experience) that stores offer better deals as Christmas gets closer.
I'm a Cyber Monday and (more recently) a Small Business Saturday shopper. Shopping online eliminates the add-on purchases I might make if I'm at the store. A lot of stores offer free shipping (especially around the holidays) so unless I absolutely have to see the item in person, to me it makes more sense to shop online. I find shopping small and local is more enjoyable.
A lot of local stores will play Christmas music, have hot chocolate and cookies, special events, etc to make it more personnel. I've even been to a store that sets up a wrapping station so you can walk out with a completely wrapped gift - you make a donation to use any of their supplies - paper, gift bags, bows, ribbon, glitter, tape, etc. They donate the money raised to a local charity. Definitely fun.
I've also done alternative gift fairs. Selected charities set up a display table, "Shoppers" browse all the charities and fill out a card with their "purchases. Then they "check out" and pay their "bill". The group organizing takes their money and tallies the amounts raised for each charity. People can make a donation on behalf of someone. they get a card that provides details of the donation and what the money will be used for. They even have a kids card that has smaller donation amounts. I've taken some of our foster dogs - we get tons of donations - especially from the kids who give a dollar because the loved getting to "pet the doggy".
