When I was in your position, I ended up buying a package with a BCD, Regs and Computer. While the Regs worked great for me for 6 years and as Kamala said are a key piece of life saving equipment, that would be my next thing to get. You have no idea when the rental ones have been serviced last. And that is the key. Keep them serviced regularly and they can last forever.

On my BC, I bought a jacket similar to what I used in training and it just was too bulky for travel, after a couple of years I switched to a Backplate/wing and haven't looked back.

On computers, clearly if you start diving on these SingleDiver trips, try one of the Cochran's before you buy. You mentioned going wireless and I have a setup like that as well, but that can come later. Mine is a wrist mount so nothing dangles. But I still dive with a gauge that came in handy when after 4 years the transmitter suddenly stopped working in the middle of a dive trip.

Keep it simple at first and you can add complexity later as you figure out how often and what type of diving you are going to be doing.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I think the key is try before buy on the bigger ticket items. I'm gonna work with Kamala and see what we can do.

+1 George!!!

Yep! The key to buying once...buy right, keep it simple and buy a platform that let's you add and upgrade without the old forklift upgrade of the past (meaning you have to throw it away or ebay it to upgrade!)

Yep! Try first and think about what you want to do and accomplish diving wise. If you like to buy new stuff every couple of years then it won't matter...buy then try. But if you want one set up that will SAFELY and SIMPLY handle all your diving needs NOW and in the future...then waiting a bit longer will REALLY pay off! ;)

p.s. At the airport starting the journey to HNL first and then Truk and Palau! WOW!!! I'm super excited and I've done the trip before! Oh wait...THAT'S why I'm so excited...I know what is coming next! :teeth:

George, If that happens then I'll have to make a decision on the next trip pretty quickly! Posted Image

Not necessarily a bad thing, just hope it doesn't fill up as fast as Truk did. Posted Image

The reason I haven't purchased a BCD is simply because I don't know exactly what I want (and the price). I thought I could rent a few and try them out to find out what I like and don't like as far as features. In my dive training, I did find things about my BCD that I did and didn't like. ......

Things I like: Having places to attach things by tether clips, Having somewhere to put my dive computer so it's not just dangling but still easily accessible (although I'm planning on buying a wireless when I actually do buy one), Having a clip so I can clip on my backup respirator (on the BCD that I used in training, I had to stick it in a pocket and I didn't like that), Having easily removable weights system, Having 2 straps to attach tank, and I'm sure there are other things that I can't remember...

Hello Shelly Posted Image

I decided to swing by and my 2 cents on the BCD subject.....I have not tried out a plethora of equipment, but I have checked out a couple jacket rigs and back inflated rigs.. I own 2 BCD's right now myself.. I own a Zeagle Stiletto travel bcd and my newly purchased Aqualung Axium i3. I really like the Axium i3. The i3 technology lets you add and dump air in any position and the BCD automatically dumps the air from the correct valve. There is a womens BCD much like this called the Soul i3: http://www.aqualung....ntent/view/632. I really like the Wrapture system, it really helps with my back (2 prolapsed discs L4&L5), There is only one strap for the tank, but it is in the right stop, plus there is a valve retaining strap that helps alleviate some weight... Check it out... It will cost some money, but maybe Kamala can get you a good discount and this is worth the money spent.

I also am looking to get a backplate & wing rig in the future for tech diving. I rather have a tech setup and a rec setup..that's just my prerogative..but I still have time and at least another 100 dives to go...

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely take a look at the Soul i3 and see if I like it. Kamala and I are going to work together to see what works best for me so I'll just have another option to look at. Posted Image
