Does anyone know whether Kamala got back from Ecuador in one piece? I am getting a little worried.

(1) please confirm the luggage limits on the domestic flights to/from Quito. Today I checked the Avianca website (they bought AeroGal airlines that makes the flights to/from Galapagos) and their website shows one free bag of 50lbs on these flights to/from Galapagos, but the current Explorer Ventures and Humboldt Explorer websites still say one suitcase 44lbs and one carry-on at 17.6lbs. (1a) Do they permit the third piece that is categorized as the personal item?

2) On the final departure from Ecuador (going home), is the international departure tax included in the price of the flight/ticket, or is it paid in cash at the airport? If paid locally, what is the current departure tax? There is conflicting information on the internet about this departure tax.

The luggage limits are the same as a regular US flight - 50 lbs / 23kg for a checked bag and then a carry on and personal.  I didn't have any issues with the same gear I travel with on all trips - backpack and roll on carry on bag.  You may have to pay for overages and they didn't weigh our carry on either going to or coming from San Cristobal.

I don't recall having to pay a departure tax in San Cristobal and know I didn't in Quito.

I seem to remember that someone else was on the same flight as I, from Atlanta to Quito? December 25th, DELTA 673, departing 5.55pm.

For the life of me, I can't remember who it was :wavey:  - so whoever you are, if you want some company on the flight, message me.

Hey gang! Sorry for being a bit MIA... sadly some bad luck is still following me but hopefully all will be 1000% bette in the new year!

Butch is right.. standard luggage limits apply to Quito. Limitations are on San Cristobal flights. On the first week we were able to check in as a group GOING due to problems and no extra charges were made. On the return yes people had to pay for over weight fees. The 2nd group had to pay both coming and going. They were pretty lax on the weight of the carry on bag but not the checked bag.

There was no exit tax of $35 nor did they charge the chamber fee of $35. However they may still charge the chamber fee.

p.s. They did not seem to hassle the personal item with our people (the advantage of being part of a big group)  but you are at risk for being told to check it or combine it. I saw them do it to other people checking in. It may be the whim of the gate agent so be prepared.

I arrive back at UIO at 10:55 on Friday. There should be prearranged transfers for everyone. Dinner on Friday night sounds good.

arrive @ 8:30pm on Thursday, Dec 25th; no doubt we will wait for others to arrive that evening before transportation departs for the hotel.

I'll be tromping around Quito on Friday if anyone wants to go. Probably won't leave the hotel until 10 or 11am. No clue where I'll end up.

dinner on Friday sounds good.
