What is the split of the other divers? Are the six of them together? Three couples who don't know each other? They may not want to split up either.

Take ALL of the divers, "us" & "them", and divide us up between three boats - regardless of two or three tank and we all have more room on all dives and nobody changes boats, just gets roomier - the resort just has to run three boats all day instead of just the morning....

Let me clarify again....

The boat will run 3 boats in the am. They will run 2 boats in the afternoon.

The only decision is whether we put all the 2 tank divers on one boat and split the 3 tank divers between the other two boats

or

We put half of our divers on one boat

The other half our divers on a 2nd boat

and all NON-SD divers on the 3rd boat

There will be 3 boats no matter what....the only decision now is if we have SDer's on 2 boats or 3.

Then I guess you'd better make a decision...that's why you get the big bucks :)

Well, this is perplexing, especially at this time of night.  My thoughts, ALL SD and NON-SD are 2 tank divers in the AM - so distribute/mix so that there is the lowest # of divers on each boat (3 boats).  If you distribute the ALL 2-tankers across 3 boats in the AM, then that should balance the PM boats close to an equal number of divers on each boat.  Mix the SDers with the non-SDers and call it a day.  Does this make sense?  Or am I interfering with the time space continuum?

(From a 2-tank diver) My first preference is to be on a less crowded boat, regardless of the mix of folks. Keeping the SD group 'together' is not an issue to me...the non-SD folks are few and most likely as fun and friendly as us (might be new members soon). 2 vs 3 tankers separated or mixed on the boats again is not a concern to me--whichever allows you and the LC dive shop to plan the loads in the easiest manner works (easier said than done, I know).

Thank you all for your input. The only people who will have a bit more room are the 3 tankers is we mix all guests evenly. The 2 tankers will have a smaller boat so will actually have the same amt of room as if they were with 18 peeps.

That being said if we do (1) boat for the 2 tankers and (2) boats for the 3 tankers then one person will have to swap to the afternoons for their 3rd dive to one of the 3 tank boats. Why? Well that would be me. Seems our uber TC for this trip reminded me that the two members utilizing our Rent A Buddy program are both doing only 2 tanks so that would put me on the 2 tank boat in the am and one of the 3 tank boats in the pm.

Not sure I want to help manage 38 people on a trip AND remember what boat I'm on after lunch!

Guess its time for me to find those big bucks I make as a trip leader and figure this out. ;)

So far I've gleaned the following....

1. The most important thing is no 3 tanker has to swap boats ....at least from our group and preferable if no one has too.

2. People want 3 boats...there will be 3 boats regardless...just have to decide if SDer's are only on 2 boats or are on 3 boats

3. Most people do not care if we mix or don't mix the resort folks into our group. As mentioned before...we hope they blend in ok and we will scallywag them if they don't! (Ok we can't do the latter and it only takes one PITA to ruin the dynamics on a boat....so here's to good karma this coming week regardless of how the boat splits go....)

4. Most people prefer more space but are ok with more people as long as it is our group!

I hope I have summarized this correctly. I'll take add'l feedback until they kill me for the boat splits... and I thought buddy teams for 2 boats were hard....geeze trying to do it for 3 boats is brutal. :(

Hi Kamala,

I vote for less divers per both... hence the mix of people.   We are all divers..

Thanks,

katherina

If we go with the least number of divers per boat...then one person still has to swap boats in the afternoons to do their 3rd dive.

I prefer the 11,14,15. Gives us room on the boat and we see everyone at meals and after diving. But I am flexible.

If we go with the maximum amt of space per boat...the caveat is no boat swapping. So the mix we have...is the mix we'll have all week. If everyone is good with that I will make the lowest number of divers per boat work which means the entire resort will all be mixed together.

Hello Kamala

Thanks for agonizing over this for us.

Paul and I are in the the two tank group, but will likely opt for an additional 3rd dive or two (circumstances permitting, and knowing that there will be additional cost). I don't really mind how you split up the boats for the first two dives. It would be great to interact with multiple people, also great to have less crowded boats. We won't mind moving our stuff around for a 3rd dive, but would like to have that option (3rd dive) open, circumstances permitting.

The price for 1 or 2 3rd dives is pretty steep...I will get it for you It may make this a whole lot easier... even if you do opt for 1-2 extra 3rd dives then of course you can be added to the other boats. You just move your gear from the am boat to the pm boat and dive. Of course we'll work it out with the Dive Guides. Thank you! Kamala

PRICE ALERT....

The price for one afternoon 3rd dive is $65 so two would be $130.  The week of 5 is $175 so the on island price is $325. I can still add you both if you want to do the afternoon dives.

Or you can rest...

Or paint a rock ... (for real)

Or drink (but only 9 peeps are not doing the 3 dive pkg)

Or siesta until everyone gets back....

So let me know asap as it will impact what decision I make for the boat splits. Thank you, Kamala
