"The other alternative would be to run two boats with just your group on them and one boat with the six other divers at the resort on it in the morning, and then move those of them who are doing 3 tank packages to the boats with your group for the afternoon"

At this point, does the resort even know how many of the "others" are doing the afternoon dive?  Doesn't sound like it to me...  Do we really want to shun six of our divers who aren't doing all three dives?  Besides, even though we are a group, it's not like we all know each other and dive together all the time - by the end of the week, the "other" divers will be a part of us anyway...why not get to know each other early?

We'll make the best of it and have fun regardless of the split...

3 tankers together, use three boats so we all have space to move around.

We will have plenty of time to get to know each other during the meals and also during the relaxed evenings after dinner, so diving from different boats should not matter.

What is the split of the other divers? Are the six of them together? Three couples who don't know each other? They may not want to split up either.

Take ALL of the divers, "us" & "them", and divide us up between three boats - regardless of two or three tank and we all have more room on all dives and nobody changes boats, just gets roomier - the resort just has to run three boats all day instead of just the morning....

My vote:

3 Tank divers on same boat for the duration.   Easier to keep track of boat buddies (i.e. whose missing) and gear.

BOAT CLARIFICATIONS:

They will ONLY run 2 boats in the afternoon. If we do 3 boats with all divers mixed it will look like this:

Boat #1 Small boat - 11 divers all doing 2 tanks of which 9 are our divers

Boat #2 Big boat - 15 divers all doing 3 tanks of which all but 2 or 4 will be non SDer's

Boat #3 Big boat - 16 divers all doing 3 tanks of which all but 2 or 4 will be non SDer's

OR

Doing 3 boats with all SDer's on 2 boats and the non-SD'ers only join our boat for the afternoon

Boat #1 small boat - 6-8 non SDer's of which 4 or so are doing 3 tanks

Boat #2 Big boat - 18 divers all SD'ers (capacity for 20 divers) mix of 2 tanks and 3 tank divers. NO SD 3 tank divers will move boats approx 2 non-SDer's will be on the boat in the afternoon

Boat #3 Big Boat - 19 divers all SDer's (capacity for 20 divers) mix of 2 tanks and 3 tank divers. NO SD 3 tank divers will move boats approx 2 non-SDer's will be on the boat in the afternoon

I guess I like option 2 because it keeps a greater number of the SD together but it doesn't matter that much to me, if the 2 dive divers want their own boat they should make the choice.

I guess I like option 2 because it keeps a greater number of the SD together but it doesn't matter that much to me, if the 2 dive divers want their own boat they should make the choice.

You bring up a great observation. The 3 tank divers will always be on the same boat regardless of whether we have 2 or 3 boats with SD peeps on them. It is the 2 tank divers that will either NEVER be with the rest of the group if we do 3 boats with SDer's on them or can be with half the group if we do 2 boats with SDer's on them.

Let's hear from the 2 tank divers since you are the ones most impacted:

A little more room but no add'l mingling with our group members

or

A little less room but being with half our group.

NOTE: I will split the 9 (2) tank divers  in a 4 and 5 split so they get to be with the most SDers and there is the most room on the boat in the afternoon for the 3 tank divers if we go with only 2 boats.

And remember one other thing... once the boats are set we can't make any boat changes other than emergencies. So when you meet that great person sitting next to you you have either a 50% they will be on your boat or you have a 33% chance they will be on your boat.

So hopefully this helps you decide1 Kamala

My vote for the first option with an 11-15-16 split: less crowded boats, a faster in and out time, 3 tankers don't change a boat, ReefDivers don't move a gear of non-SDers for the PM dives.

Thank you for your vote. Are you doing 2 or 3 tanks daily?

I vote for the first option, where we have the non SD divers mix with us.

Strong preference for fewer number of people on the boats for the morning dives.

Ok. So now I read the most recent posts and I agree that we should keep 3 tankers together.
