Don't count on me for this trip, my blood bank says Belize is off limits (except Belize City) if I want to continue to donate blood.

I'm not allowed to donate blood. I tried a few months ago and was told no thanks. I spent too much time in Europe in the early 80's (they can't screen for mad cow)
I would be interested in the trip.

I'd love to donate blood more regularily but it interferes with diving! And I also lived in Europe too long as well. Of coures they have only recently been concerned about that. -ww

I started a thread about a Belize trip last year in June. Unfortunately not enough divers were interested at that time. Therefore I have other plans for 2005 now, but I am very much interested in a 2006 Belize dive trip. But I am not really interested in a liveaboard trip.

As well as all over Europe there was "mad cow disease" in the USA & Canada as well. Most countries hushed it up, notably (in Europe) Germany and Spain. Britain went way overboard the other way. But I've never heard of that being a reason not to give blood. I can't give blood anyway because I've just had too many tropical diseases.

Incidentally, Walter, there's no malaria on the cayes and not much inland in Belize. Most people I know don't take anything to prevent malaria, wherever they live. Is travel to Belize really banned by your blood transfusion service?

I've been anemic all my life, so I can't give blood. Put me down for an interest in Belize for sure! :teeth: A dive tech guy up here just bought or bought into a dive operation down there, so it is likely I'll be down there one way or another this year!
