According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers until after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should have known…..ONLY women would be able to drag a fat ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost. :wakawaka:

Actually, in most cases, the drawings aren't even of reindeer.

Bravo Walter... the truth to the end.

H20Bug is absolutely right about the males losing their antlers before the females, however, it's more like January before they lose them. Some texts may vary on this slightly, but basically it's when the male's testosterone levels reach their lowest point and that's several months after their breeding season in the fall.

While your arguement of female reindeer pulling the sleigh is definitely valid, perhaps it is another case where we males are dumb... but not so dumb. By shedding their antlers before the females, these men of the reindeer world have avoided the biggest "honey-do" chore of all... Christmas present deliveries worldwide. Or perhaps, the male reindeer were simply smart enough never to get caught by some fat white man in the first place... after all, the only difference between caribou and reindeer is captivity. :birthday:
