Where clipping off on recovery becomes a problem is when the wind is a significant component of the drift.

It is not at all uncommon for the wind to be pushing the boat in one direction and the current to be moving in another. That's why having a line in the water can lead to fun things like fouling the propellors or having the boat run down your scooter.

It's not like I have never gone in or out on a line or a moored vessel. It's just that my technique does not require one. I am always good to go even if I get a hernia here and there. :teeth:

. . . standing a scooter on the nosecone (I assume) and going in with the leash on you . . . .

The tail end is down on the deck. The nose is up. You take a band and put it around a third of the way back from the nose, around the body of the scooter and with low profile loop handle. You just hold the handle, facing forward on the boat, while standing on the platform, leash on. When you step back into the water, you pull the scooter in with you, let go of the the handle and grab the handles at the stern of the scooter. Away you go!

Ok, I understand what you're talking about. The "better" scooters (e.g. my UV18) have the "handle" already there.

It'd work off a platform, but definitely wouldn't on some boats. Makes sense if the configuration works...

As for reboarding with a scooter, trying to carry it and climb a latter has to be, uh, "interesting". I don't see how you can manage that one..... but always willing to watch and learn!

With hot pickups (which we don't do often around here) for obvious reasons coordination between the crew at the stern and the fool at the controls is paramount. Running down a scooter is the least of the problems - chewing up a diver is worse :dltears:
