     I was on the trip last Spring, so my reply is based on what we did then.  The group that spent several days in Havana to start the trip had a bus ride of about 6.5 to 7 hours from Havana to where the boat is docked.  We left between 6 and 8 in the morning and got to the boat early to mid afternoon.  I seem to recall that the group that flew into CMW had a 2-3 hour bus ride at most, and we met them at the boat.  I would guess that they left CMW mid morning for their transfer on day one of the scheduled trip.  Again, based on memory, I believe you will be taking a taxi from the airport to the accommodations that you will be staying at for the night of August 30.  I do not know if Kamala is setting up a hotel of a house for the people staying in CMW, but she will get that info out as the trip gets closer.  For the group flying into Havana, Kamala is recommending that we try and fly as a group, and the group flight is landing in HAV around 2:45.  I did a quick search and it looks like there is one flight on AA on Aug 30 that flies MIA to CMW.  It departs Miami at 12:19pm.  As Kamala highly recommends flying through Miami for the Cuba trip, I believe that that will be the desirable flight.  Ed

I'm back from the NJ Dive Show so thank you Ed. Your recollection is great.

 

Henry YES you can fly into CMW to save vacation days and cost. You can arrive anytime the day before the trip starts and we will confirm the departure time from the GROUP HOTEL I HAVE BOOKED* to the boat.

 

As soon as you get your flights done send them to trips@singledivers.com and upload the flight details in your travel docs for SD online. Thank you

 

* Actually we have several hotels/homes booked and will finalize the actual booking once we know how many are flying via CMW.And while you can try and fly into CMW the day of departing for the boat WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION. If you do this then get loaded up on your trip insurance including the full liveaboard rider as you could easily lose the whole trip due to transport delays which are FREQUENT these days.

     I was scheduled to be on the same flights as you have listed.  Now my flights are showing as AA1116 departing Miami at 1:40 and arriving HAV at 3:00.  The return is showing as AA 2706 departing HAV at 11:45 arriving MIA at 1:00.  Ed

To repeat and confirm yes I am planning on the land pre-dive trip.
Long transfers to and from boat! I look forward to seeing the country at least through a window.
I bought two one-way tickets.
1.  I fly MCO->MIA->HAV on 28 August making the group trip in MIA 1:40->3 pm.
I presume at end of land tour I will need to pay the transfer fee HAV -> Boat
2.  I return from CMW->MCO on 9-07 2:40 pm flight.
I will need to pay the transfer fee Boat -> CMW and CMW hotel stay.
I look forward to arrangements being solid so I can report the trip to work with a long lead time.

I am booked for arrival in Miami at 9:20am Aug 28th on AA2510.  Joining Group flight AA1116 from Miami to HAV at 1:40PM, Arr HAV 3PM.
Departing on Sept 7th from CMW to Miami on AA1488 at 2:40PM; connecting to AA1171 to NY at 7:30PM.
Please let me know if there is any problem with this schedule and how much I owe for the pre-dive trip to Havana.

Actually the views from the bus are pretty darn good!

The transfer fees will all actually be paid upfront so we can set up our private transfers. We may share the bus with a few fishermen but usually not.

As it stands and should not change...you'll owe $150 for the HAV to boat transfer and $65 for the boat to CMW transfer. Once we get everyone's flights and plans... we will bill for the transfers you have chosen.

 

I had good progress getting the trip locked in this past weekend. Need to tighten up 1 or 2 things and set a few back ups in place so if anything changes at 'showtime' I can slide in the extras seamlessly. I'l have this done no later than early April. So tons of time for the necessary paperwork for work.
