Update: 5-11-05

We have tried a number of ways to make this work for this year and we just can't get it to happen and now airfare is even skyhigh so I'm not sure I can make it out just to walk the show!

HOWEVER...I hope we get a HH going for those in the area that will be visiting the show and DustBowlDiver may have business in the area so will want to attend. One of our members DiveScoop can usually get free tickets so let us know who plans to attend and we'll work on free tickets.

Also if anyone wants little wallet sized SD calendars to hand out to people at the show let me know and I'll send a care package of them! -ww

Hey gang...The Scuba Show in Long Beach, CA May 20-22, 2005 is a show we'd really love to participate in to help grow our membership in the CA and Western US areas. The booth rate is $1000 which we can not afford. I have contacted the promoting organization to see if we can qualify for a dicounted club rate. Currently they do not offer such a discount however they will consider it if I submit a letter to them. That letter will go out today so that they can consider it and hopefully accept our proposal to provide them help working the show in exchange for a reduced booth rate of usually $200.

IF we can pull this off...would anyone be interested in helping work not only the SD booth but also the Scuba Show? We'd need at least 56 hours of volunteer help just like BTS in New Jersey as well as some help at the SD booth although if I had to man it myself I could so that all our volunteers were available to help with the main show.

Anyone interested in helping with this project? Thanks, -ww

Kamala...weren't we thinking of having a happy hour or similar gathering the night in between the two days of the show, on the 21st? You know that would be an awesome set-up...come in, work a little to help out SD, then party the rest of the night away with good friends. I don't know how other SoCAL divers feel, but I'd help out...

Yep! That was the plan thanks to you! :(

Now we need to see if we can get enough volunteers to make it fly. As much as I'd love to be able to spend $1000 to buy a booth and airfare and lodging etc....I just can't do it. If we can get the booth for a reduced rate I can just pull it off!

Thanks for all the offers to help RH and GD!!! We'll need them and MORE!!! -ww

If you've been to that show you know that the answer to that question is definitely "no."

Rockbottom brewery, Kings fishhouse and several other restaurants are along the main Long Beach downtown area. I don't think finding a location will be a problem Doug.

I'm suppose to be out of town at a convention that weekend, then off to meet some of you for the Keys dive. Twice in past years I've help with the show, ushering for a couple of speakers. Met some great people. Jim Church, a world famous photographer, who passed away a couple years ago, gave a great lecture. I ushered for him, and the next morning bumped into him at the hotel, so we had breakfast togather. I'm not much into photography, but to have an uniterupted hour with a pioneer and master of his craft, was more than worth the price of admission. Go and help if you can, you just never know what's going to happen.
You may not be able to smell the roses underwater, but you can sea horses.
