A few years ago I was following a black sea bass through our dive park with my camera rolling. I noticed through the viewfinder that it was heading towards a group of divers at the far end of the park, and they scattered as it approached. He felt threatened by a bass? What the....?
While on my surface interval, a group of divers came over to me and asked if I was the guy with the camera who chased that big "shark" towards them. I guess they were species ID challenged, but they did feel threatened. Of course that one was twice as big as the 150-pounder in this incident.

Sheesh, some people are just too dumb to be allowed in the water.......While on my surface interval, a group of divers came over to me and asked if I was the guy with the camera who chased that big "shark" towards them.

Now you've ruined it for me, I haven't seen Open Water and everyone was telling me that after I see it, I wouldn't want to go diving again. I guess I'll have to rent it soon, give me even more reason to use all the new gear I bought, hehe. These are the same people who thought "Open Water" and the "Blair Witch Project" were true stories...

Have been blessed with quite a number of black sea bass encounters the past 5 years. Unfortunately the best was one where I didn't carry a camera. I was diving with a new buddy who had never dived in kelp. We had a 20-minute encounter with a pair of black sea bass above the wrecks in the Dive Park. The male black sea bass took a liking to my female buddy, leaving me free to make the moves on his female. She let me come right up to her, scratch her belly and stuck with me until her boyfriend barked to call her over to him.

Really, though. The publicity surrounding the violation will most likely help more fish in the long run.
