The only place I know of Central with some sort of diving possibility would be Houston and we could work to combine it with a trip to the Flower Gardens! Our trip this year sold out very quickly so we might be able to do a day or two of conference (makes it tax deductible if you are in the industry) and then combine it with 2-3 days of awesome Texas diving!

TEXAS? who in their right mind would want to go to TEXAS to dive? Don't you guys just have those off shore oil derricks to dive around? Awesome diving? in TEXAS? thot you just had ribs and kboys in TEXAS? Oh wait, I was born in Texas, what am I thinking? :diver: :teeth:

But, WW, darlin' I'd go anywhere you want me to JUST to be at another fun SD gathering be it "diving?" in Texas or maybe the Caribbean (now we're talkin') :teeth:

Jellyfish not a trojan? that is just toooooooo funny. :diver:

If the purpose (I'm afraid I still don't understand the concept) is to pick up specialties, you need to be on the ocean. If a Wreck specialty is part of the plan, The Fort Lauderdale area would be ideal. There are lots of wrecks in the Fort Lauderdale area in the 60 - 80 ft depth range. Orlando is not on the ocean. The Keys are not a good choice, the wrecks on which you can learn penetration are simply too deep to get enough time for students to practice skills.

I'm sure a seminar/class on digital photography or video would draw interest.

How about " dangerous things to avoid while diving?" I surfaced once covered with baby jellyfish. They were everywhere and we couldn't find a spot to avoid them. Luckily, I had a pound jar of triamcinolone with me and all the welps didn't get as bad as other people with the same experience.

I think CPR, a naturalist class, a few reps to talk gear.
I know many of our members have traveled and have photos of their trips. So a few talks on my trip to??? would be nice for those of us that have not been able to travel much. Or even a few talks on I live and dive in??? and if you come visit this is what you'll find.
Maybe a few round table discussions on packing and preparing for dive travel. What works and what doesn't.

A very good idea--I'm always looking for new ideas in this area.

-My 'professional' education (except for DM), revolves around computers.  Anybody want a course on Microsoft SQL Server?  :sleepy:

YES! :elf:

:cool1:

Sorry, the semester just finised. However, I'm sure we'll offer the classes next spring (I'm teaching a programming class and Windows XP this fall).

'course Martinsburg, WV is a bit of a drive from Lauderdale by the Sea :) I should know, I just drove my RV back from that area. :teeth:

Anyway, back on subject.

Ref: Orlando - cheap flights, cheap hotels, cheap booze, cheap...err you get the point. A great place for a conference (which is why there are alot there). As for diving. I don't know much about ocean diving in that area, (Tampa, Daytona, Cocoa, etc.), but the Florida Springs are pretty neat. They're an hour (or two) north of Orlando in various places. Also, if you hit in Janurary/February, the Manatees are in at Crystal River.

Ref: Topics/Seminars/Forums (whatever you want to call it). Actually, I think a women (and or men) specific diving issues would be a great idea. Sorry guys, but women do actually have some different issues than we do when diving. That's why there are 'female' BC's, and mask straps (and Scuba-Doo Rags). They also have different bouyancy characteristics (some more than others)....thus they should (often don't, because nobody has taught them how) distribute their weight differently.

The more I think about it, the more women specific things I come up with. One piece or two piece? Ok, I know that's a no brainer for anybody with experience in a 7mm wetsuit. 'Time of the month' issues. Changing/wearing a bathing suit in public. Not necessarrily women specific, but, I at least think, they're more sensitive to it that we (men) are. Dealing with unwanted advances. Dealing with heavy equipment. Granted, not all of these apply to women only....but you get my drift.

A naturalist class? Is that where you learn to dive naked?

I would be interested in Wreckdiving and photography.. as to a location, it's got to be somewhere warm, has blue clear water and interesting things to do or see outside of the conference and diving I'm good with it.. :sleepy:

Is that a prerequisite to the Sex Underwater class?

Are we going to have an Underwater Tantra class for the DIR people?
