Now that I don't have to pick dates for other people, my mind can go back to a productive mode.

Here's a list of possibilities

1. Historical Shipwrecks of (pick a location)--could have more than one of these.

2. Introduction to Technical Diving

3. Introduction to DIR

4. Underwater Photography workshop

5. Digital Editing Workshop

6. Underwater Archaeology

7. Medical issues for the over 50 diver

8. Nutrition and Diving

9. Fish ID (I'll volunteer to do this one or find someone to do it)

10. Introduction to Rebreathers

11. Gas blending

12. CPR/First Aid Course

13. Selling your Underwater Photographs

14. Jobs in the Dive Industry

Topics are going to depend very much on where we are going to have the conference. Another reason to do it in Florida. Just throwing out ideas, folks.

Maybe Tampa should be included as a possible location. It is closer to some diving(but for the most part shallow); and is about the same cost to fly to as Orlando.

Back when i was still a scientist, I actually set up and managed several symposia on everything from bioremediation to the environmental impact of confined feed lot operations--I am not volunteering---LOL

Tampa has Busch Gardens (my favorite park in FL). I can ask my father about the diving. He used to do an annual 'Disney, Dive, and Deep Sea Fishing' trip. He has a timeshare in Orlando and a favorite charter operation out of Tampa. Didn't do it last year for some reason :banghead:

But I would say to move things along, the next thing we need is a committee to establish a focus and a program for the conference. We've got a lot of good ideas, but we need to meld them to a thematic and marketable whole. We may be wanting dive industry support for this at some point. If we can do that (and I don't see why not--we're a pretty bright bunch of people), then we could move forward and start looking at locations, etc.

I do know of one equipment manufacturor in that area: Zeagle that may be a resource. Also, Jared Jablonski of GUE fame is in that area. Just a couple of names, based on DrDiver's awesome list!

I agree that you need to form a task force, at this point. There are a lot of questions & issues to iron out before any real decision can be made.

We'll have a single divers conference of two people. We'll take turns being the audience.

What was is that Margaret Mead said?

"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

or Ray Kinsella, I think.

"If you build it, people will come."
