For the kind of repetitive diving that we are talking about in this thread, I would use gauge mode.

We don't need no steeeenkin' NDL's for repetitive dives. Besides, I thought that your training favored gauge mode.

Good point Brian...

I probably would put it in guage mode, because this would definately be a deep dive.

Now triggerfish, just what are you referring to re: size and kelpfish? If the reference is to the male, I'll decline a response. We all know that the number of eggs produced by female fish is often directly related to size (often exponentially).

By the way- we know that triggerfish aggressively defend their nests (me from personal experience in Polynesia). What I can't remember is whether the male or the female (or both) does/do the defending. As a member of that family, can you illuminate?

Ah, 'Chie and Triggerfish, the sacrifices you lovely ladies are willing to make for diving and science. It warms the cockles of my heart (just what the heck does that mean anyway?).

Dr. B.

why yes, darling, i can.....
it depends on the species. for example, with the queen trigger (my personal fav)..balistes vetula, the male will defend his hard-earned nest. however, with the rare freshwater trigger....balistes chicagostis...it is the wily FEMALE who aggressively defends what is hers, often to the point of encasing the hapless but smitten male in a chain-like casing until the life is bred right out of him.
but he dies with a smile on his toothy face!
