I had actually chosen the Robert Johnson version - hence the "different era". :teeth:

Brickyard Road, by Lynyrd Skynyrd

It was about one of the band members, Ronnie van Zandt, who was killed in a plane crash during the late 70's (ironically when the band was really coming into its own). I remember it well.

Ah but you got away, didn't you babe,
you just turned your back on the crowd,
you got away, I never once heard you say,
I need you, I don't need you,
I need you, I don't need you
and all of that jiving around.

Also for extra credit--who was this song supposedly about?

"Chelsea Hotel" - Leonard Cohen

Was it allegedly about Janis Joplin? (Something about . . . on an unmade bed? :wakawaka:

Hoping I'm correct . . .

Come the day you're mine
I'm gonna teach you to fly
We've only tasted the wine
We're gonna drain the cup dry

Correct. Janis thought he was Kris Kristofferson. (just shows you what drugs will do to perception)

Heeeyyy! There's nothing wrong with Leonard Cohen! He may not have the looks of Paul Newman, but with a speaking voice like his, he doesn't need them! :P

OK, now back to Hawk's snippet . . .

Took me a while to remember the name of the group

Midnight Oil Hercules

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
London is drowning-and I live by the river

That would be London Calling, a song by The Clash.

Here's an easy one (I think).

Will you cater to every fantasy I got
Will ya hose me down with holy water, if I get too hot
Will you take me places I've never known...

Easy indeed! (I actually have the first album in my CD changer now.)

"Greetings to the New Brunette" by Billy Bragg (have to admit I googled that one because I couldn't remember the title of the song... remembered Billy Bragg, though! :hiya: ) now that's getting pretty obscure (and pretty funny too), Anna!!! :D

Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you
to light up the darkness and show us the way.
For though we are strangers in your silent world, to live on the land we must learn from the sea.
To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell, joyful and loving in letting it be.
