:welcome: Hi Richard,

I go to the Big Island every year to dive with the Mantas. I have found only a couple of good spots which I return to they are Spaceship and the Golden Arches. Do you have any additional recommendations?

I dive with Big Island divers and have dove about another 18 spots that.....well were/are boring. So I usually make it a 4 day dive trip.

Love the warm water and Vis but looking for some good action dive spots.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Richard,

I'd give my left... well... my left... ummm.... you know.... to dive with humpbacks.

Ummmm. Yeah.

Okay, it's stupid, but I have dreams about diving with humpbacks. Really. A recurring dream.

Any pointers on making that happen?

(I know.... it's probably not even legal. But a guy can dream....)

Thanks!

Hey David Evans , I would like to help you with the humpback Whales . You do know it's against the law . I think you can only get within 500 yards of a humpback . BUT!!! I have seen the humpbacks come right up to the boat . Only if the boat is dead in the water .

:cool2: Yes I have dove with Jacks excellent operation and Keller knows more about Mantas than I believe any other human does. I have also dove with Kona coast divers.

I enjoy Big Island Divers as they have a couple of Divemasters that have dove the South Pacific and like the kind of diving i like to do i.e. Spaceship or the Arches which are very good dives. Also they are a smaller more personable operation.

Thanks for the tip on the Web site.

Just got back from Kona where I got one day of diving in (that was 25+ hours on 23 dives over the span of 8 days). Manta rays, spotted and spinner dolphins, pilot whales were all great. I'm a big fan of DiveTek Adventures (Keith, Chuck, and Colin do an awesome job)--they're head and shoulders above anyone else I've ever been out with.

There is a new dive show going to be in Hawaii next year early Feb which I think would be really cool to participate in AND plan a dive trip around. Any interest in doing an SD trip there? The show will be Feb 4 & 5th 2006 at the Hawaii Convention Center! www.hiexpos.com

It is the first one and I think it would be great to participate AND dive!

I dove the Big Island at the end of March and water temp was about 76. After diving the week before in Kosrae at 84 that 8 degrees seemed really cold. I'm sure Feb would be even cooler.
