Yee Haw!!!

Congratulations Sam (and dad)!

I know how excited you were about Sam finishing the OW class, and then taking the trip to Coz! Sounds like he managed well, last minute gear issues and all! Have fun diving the hole. Poor kid. He makes it through the check out dives with the instructor.... and then has to repeat them for dad! :o

Have a blast and bring back some daddy/son diving pics to post!

Wow congratulations! My younger brother Patrick, also 17, finished his OW and I finished my AOW on the 10th. I took him for his first dive without an instructor immediately after he got his card. I could tell he was nervous, but once he got to where he could see a few things underwater he did great. I'm like you though...I hung onto his arm while navigating. He's got a long way to go with bouyancy and agility underwater so he bounced around a lot. On the way home (1.5 hour drive), he said NOTHING! I mean absolutely NOTHING! Yep...he's ready to go again!

Congrats! You're gonna have a blast diving with your son!

So, BB..... :hiya:

Inquiring minds want to know..... how was the diving this weekend with Sam? Any pics of the underwater duo? :respect: After all of the gear issues Sam had before his OW certs, surely there couldn't be any more details that could stand in the way of a great father/son dive weekend.... ;) (sorry, just could not resist!)

One of the biggest thrills that I have ever had is that last year I had all 3 of my sons certified together (Jr OW). I did this on the day that my youngest turned 10 through PADI as my other two were 12 and 14 at the time. I took the week off from work and studied with them during the day while they had class each night (it was a one week course that I had prearranged with the instructor). I'm proud to say that they each passed their tests on their first try! The instructor let me witness the class during their open water tests. Right before their class I took the PADI Rescue Diver course as I was so nervous to watch them all at once!

Since that time, we have made 4 trips to the Florida Keys as well as just finishing a 3 week trip all around FL. I still get goosebumps when we are all together diving. What is most impressive is how fast they have improved as they are each now coming into their own. I bought my oldest son an underwater digital camera for Christmas last year and he has turned into quite the shutterbug! He's posted some of his pics on scubaboard under the name beniam4. This year he turned 15 and for his birthday I have signed him up for AOW which starts next month.

So congratulations as diving can be a bond that unites the two of you more than one can imagine!
